The answer to your question is because they can. Remember, no one can hurt us if we don't let them, so the more you care about them the more it hurts. Someone mentioned in a post I read just today about how Lucinda points out we tend to be people pleasers, and we tend to expect it in return, well when we don't get the understanding and patience we think we deserve, we take it personally, when mostly its probably just an oversight. I know I take things way to personal in almost everything I do. I can go a whole day thinking my hubby and I are fighting because of something he said, or didn't say, and he has absolutely no idea that I was even upset.......which makes me even more mad! I do think we tend to be high maintenance people because we take everything to heart. Hope it helps. Take care, hang in there.

hi. I agree with wanttofeelgoodagain but I just want to add this. When people are hurt and angry they tend to hurt other people. And because they feel safe with you and they know that you love them and won't hurt them, they tend to take their frustrations out on you because they know you won't hurt them. You teach people how to treat you by your actions. Therefore, you must become assertive, not aggressive, and tell them how you feel when they do irritating things to you. I'm the youngest child out of ten children and I'm talking from experience. Because I am the youngest they didn't take me seriously, but they all do now. Don't argue and fuss, speak calmly and tell people how you feel when they do certain things. They won't like it at first, but they'll respect your more because of it. Nobody really respects "push overs".
