I have a skin disease called vitiligo. I am not ashame of the the discoloration it does not bother me. What is happening though is every time I go out in the sun I am burning. Now I have rash like symptoms and blisters. Now my anxiety gone right up. I am seeing what is happening with my skin. Those that do not know, vitiligo is where the autoimmune system attacks the pigments causing discoloration. It is not dangerous nor can anyone catch it. It is generic.
I am concern about my physical health. I am trying to contact others that has it. I am also seeing a dermatologist Monday. I see people beside me time to time move away as they become scared of this. They often wonder what is wrong with me. It is terrible to see people treat others so very different over something they do not understand, or they try to understand but do not.
I been looking into cost about things I can do. With the income presently it is way too high. Finding make up with protection that will even out my skin tone to prevent the sunburns is not easy to find. If found there is a high cost. The rate this is going could lead to that I may not be able to go out in the sun. Looks like I may become a night hawk. Sometimes this can become depressing since there is only a handful that stays awake at night.
Thank you
Anxiety Attacks With A Skin Disease
Hi John. I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. I can sympathize as my doctors think I am in the early stages of autoimmune disease myself. I also am going to have to stay out of the sun. And...I am very concerned about my physical health.
I've always struggled with anxiety and now it is just a huge cycle since the last thing you are supposed to do if you have an autoimmune issue is to get stressed. It makes it worse. Then you are just going around in a circle.
Well, again, I'm sorry but you are NOT alone.

Life is too short to own an ugly boat. Step aboard for a wonderful journey!
I am so sad and sorry some people behave that way. Have you considered politely telling these people I have skin discoloration and don't worry, it's not contagious. It's unfortunate that you have this condition, and you also have to educate people about it. Nothing is wrong with you. What's wrong is ignorance. I wish you the best of luck.
Hello John:
My eldest daughter had (may still have)
Vitiligo.
She hasn't mentioned it lately. I live in a dif. state from her.
I know that the took "light" treatments for it.
I know that she had a streak of white hair, too , as well as skin discoloration. She is a natural brunette.
It may be arrested now. I just don't know, but I will contact her and ask about it. She was living in Montana when this showed up. She traveled a ways to go where they had the "Light" treatment.
I know that most people aren't aware of this particulat problem and they sure can act weird.
I am sorry you've encountered this behavior.
I don't think the "light" treatments cure the disease. But it seemed to help. I will ask more about it.
She lives in Arizona now.
Wishing you the best.
MaryJane

John,
I don't know anything about this particular condition, so I can't speak with knowledge regarding it.
I can say that I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder regarding the thyroid. (Told was incurable and would eventually have to be on meds the rest of my life.) I went to see a nature path that was recommended to me and she put me on some different things. Two months later when I retested my thyroid, all my levels were normal, and I tested NEGATIVE for the antibodies relating to the autoimmune disease.
I was referred to her by a friend of mine in his late twenties. He had ulcerative colitis and such extreme symptoms that he could not function. He was on steroid cycle treatments, intervenous treatments every four months and the strongest meds for this condition out there and it still didn't irradicate his symptoms. Doctors say this disease is treatable, but not curable. He even went to the Mayo Clinic and they said there was nothing else they could do for him aside from surgery, and even then there was a good chance it could reoccur later! He started seeing her and within a few months he had ZERO symptoms, within 9 months he was totally off all meds and when he went for a colonoscopy (spelling?) there wasn't even any evidence that he EVER suffered from the desease. When he had this success, his extended family that live overseas called for his uncle that has MS. He was so bad he rarely got out of bed and spoke in almost a whisper. Within 1 to 2 months of doing phone consultations with the naturpath and taking the stuff she sent, he had made extreme progress. (And their family is very blessed financially, so he had seen some of the top doctors around with no real progress.)
Anyway...just wanted to tell you that there IS hope out there! Sometimes you find it in nonconventional methods. I know my friend started seeing this woman as a last resort because he really didn't give this method much credit. He's thanking God above for finally trying it out now I can tell you!
Of course, there are a lot out there who don't know what they are doing, so you have to make sure you find a good one.
I hope you find some answers, and relief...and be encouraged, there are a lot of different types of treatment out there! I pray you find the one that helps with your condition.
