Do you feel guilty about being of work sick? I have listened to the guilt and worry CD but it doesn't really help, I think its just a trait I have. I am off today sick with a cold, I went in yesterday with the cold and coughed and sneezed all day and the day went very very slow, there i was standing in 23'c temperatures with a fleece jacket of me, looking like I was of to Alaska for a vacation, So I woke this morning and still felt the same so decided not to go in. I phoned into work say i'm not coming in and was told thats ok, but I still feel guilty, I suppose I don't like letting them down or something.

I talked to a guy at work about this one time, I said "Any time I take of sick I feel guilty" he said "You know how to cure this? You phone in and let them know and that cures the guilty feeling" I always phone in and it never cure it with me.

I feel horrible, so am better of at home, but the guilt and worry eats aways at me. At work I come in and put my head down all day and work, where as others come in late, stand around drinking coffee and mess about all day and it doesn't bother them, If I done this again i'd feel guilty as hell.

Can any relate to my predicament?

Awww, I wish I could relate but when I take off work I feel fine. In fact, I get so upset when I have to work when i am sick. Do you like your job? Do you always take off work for being sick? See, I dont like my job AND a couple months ago i would always take off a day for being sick because i always was sick. All i can say is try not to worry. Youre already sick dont make yourself sick with worry . Rest and drink tea and watch funny movies or inspiring books. I dont think you should feel guilty.

Hi celeron...while I'm not currently working outside the home, I can relate to your guilt feelings. I often felt like I was making myself more sick, just working up the nerve to place the phone call, to report that I wouldn't be there!! Given your cold symptoms, and the fact that you'd stuck it out with those symptoms the day before (others in your workplace already know you're sick), the notion that they thinking you're being a load on the company by not coming to work is kinda silly! Also, I recall asking co-workers with same such symptoms, to please stay home...so as to NOT spread the cold...undoubtedly, when 1 gets a cold in our home ALL of us end up with it...YUCK!! :p :p With this thought in mind...you've done your work/co-workers a FAVOR!!
Hope you're feeling better! Take good care!

celeron.....its ok to be sick and have to stay home the guilt comes from when you feel sick you call in but in reality deep down your not as sick as you think you are and you feel badly for not going in.....

The guilt and worry lesson are good but to say it doesnt pertain to you is not true...if your feeling guilt it does pertain to you. Its not who you are in anyway its something you feel. My suggestion to you is to relisten to the lesson and try the assertive one as well. You have to listen to those cds till the light bulb goes off inyour head and you say AHHH HAAA I got it. This program only works if YOU work the program...to listen is great but you have to do what it says. In lesson 3 we learn to speak positively so to say this is me is not positive...a better statement might be....Ok not feeling well again thats ok...maybe I need some time to rest Ill take a sick day and Ill rest and relax because I deserve that.

Sometimes feelings of sickness even cold/flue symptoms are directly from stress and anxiety....when our bodies are compromised with stress it is less efficient so we are more likely to pick up little bugs here and there. YOu need to get your life in a total overhaul.....eat a balanced diet and get good solid rest for night, excersise even if its only a walk to the corner get up and get going. You can walk with a cold. If you get your body feeling better by working the program and living those skills you will feel better and the guilt will be gone cuz you wont be staying home sick so often.

Your in a very natural progression of the anxiety and depression most people get into that spot of this is just me I wont be better....yes you will......start talking to yourself with more compassion and kindness. It will come give it time and practice practice practice your skills everyday......
