Hello everyone my name is Sherri and i have has anxiety toooo long. I need serious help and i can't find it around here where i live . I have a severe medication phobia , i won't even take tylenol when i have a fever for i am afraid of how i will feel after i take it . I currently have a nasty virus and the dr. gave me a presciption for an antibiotic and i have't taken the first one . every time i think about taking one i cry , get frustrated at how i feel and am soooo afraid of what it is going to do to me . Someone please help me or tell me where i can find real help , not just the type that tells you that you have to take a medication and wait to see how you feel because that doesn't work for me . If anyone live near Staunton Virginia i would be very pleased to hear from someone close and supportive . thank you for reading this long thread

Season

Hello. Im sorry to say I dont live in Virgina but I can try to help non the less. I know that its very scary to have anxiety. The fears are so unbelievably real and its very hard to figure out what is the truth and what isnt.

I want to tell you that I was severely anxiety ridden as well. This program was wonderfull it gave me the skills I need to cope through an anxiety attack and I also gained the confidence in myself that I was really lacking.

Medication can be scary to take. The media today does an excellent job of scaring the beegeebers out of us. Something you could try is to take your first pill at a clinic or ER. You dont have to go in just sit in the car in the parking lot....IF something happens (and it wont) but to soothe your fear if something happens you are close to medical help.

Sometimes we need to make little bridges for ourselves to cross over the fear and thats ok. Baby steps. Antibiotics are very usefull and they will help to get you well....Any sort of life threatening reaction you might have will occur almost immediately so if you are in that parking lot and you took your pill and your still ok by 15-20 minutes after you are good to go.

Its not the answer to the big picture but as I said if it helps to get that medication into your body so you can begin to get well then thats what you need to do.

I would highly suggest the program if you dont already have it. And seriously work it, because it does work. I am proof and you will be too.

Life is a gift. try to notice the gracious things the good things the things that make you happy instead of all the fear and negativity and doom. Im telling you this simple change even if only a small one at first will begin to make your life so much easier to live.

You can do this.

Thank you so much for your post!! I think it just gets to the point that you feel that no one knows what you go through just to take a pill that will help you get better!!! i know that it makes me very upset that i feel this way now , when years ago i never gave it a thought , i just knew that i had to take it to get better.

Also what makes this program so differnt from books and other programs? I am thinking of ordering it , but i have been through alot of conseling and can talk myself down from a panic attack , i just can't seem to get over certain humps , like the medication thing . Does this program address this as well?

Thank you for any inforation you can give me

Hi,
I wanted to comment on Dodger post as well. This was a great piece of advise. I like to read your posts Dodger. Maybe next time you will feel different about taking something and you wont have to do this but at this time maybe this is what it will take. Baby steps.

THE BEST WAY TO GET PAST A PHOBIA IS TO DO IT. I KNOW HOW IT IS. IT CAN KEEP YOU FROM GETTING THE MEDICAL TREATMENT THAT YOU NEED. THERE WILL COME A DAY THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE MEDS TO SAVE YOUR LIFE. I HAD THE NEEDLE PHOBIA. I HAVE ACTUALLY RAN OUT OF A DRS OFFICE WHEN HE MENTIONED A FINGER PRICK. I HAD TO HAVE SURGERY IN 94. I MADE MY DR PUT ON MY CHART THAT I WOULD HAVE ONLY ONE NEEDLE FOR IV.AND ONE BLOOD TEST PRE-OP. HE WAS A GREAT DOCTER. BUT MY BLOOD TEST SHOWED I HAD DIABETES . DIABETES IS A MEDICAL CONDICION THAT REQUIRES MANY FINGER STICKS AND BLOOD TESTS. HE KEPT HIS PROMISE ABOUT THE NEEDLES,BUT I LET MYSELF HAVE THE FINGER STICKS. AFTER ONLY A FEW STICKS I WAS COMPLETELY OVER MY FEAR OF THEM.I KNOW IT SOUNDS IMMPOSIABLE,SEASON BUT IT WORKS.EXPOSURE TO THE PHOBIA WORKS.I HAD ALWAYS WANTED TO GET PAST IT. I KNEW THE DAY WOULD COME WHEN I WOULD HAVE TO DO IT. NEEDLE PHOBIA HAD KEPT ME FROM GETTING MEDICAL TREATMENT. IT KEPT ME FROM GETTING TREATMENT FOR MY PANIC ATTACKS.MY OPINION IS TAKE DODGERS ADVICE AND DO IT AT THE DRS OFFICE.GOOD LUCK...............MALIKYE

I AM NOT YELLING :)

I have the same problem. I won't hardly take
advil and I have taken it all my life. But here lately I am afraid of it and antibotics. I am also afraid of eating foods because I think I will develop a allergy to them. I need lots of help. Does anyone else feel this way?

Carson,
I was the same way with foods also. I have gradually been adding some of those back right now , after about 7 years ! It take time and alot of oh well if i do i will go get help . I know what you are going through so much and i am sorry you are , but know this you are not alone and it all stems from our over panicked minds .
