My main feeling when I have a Panic Attack is that my heart beats very fast! I feel that it will not slow down and I will die. Is there anything that helps this? I have tried Xanax and deep breathing but when I am in a total panic it doesn't seem to work. Please let me know if anyone has something that works for them. Thanks..

I have this same fear. My heart will beat 150-160 when in a panic attack. I have tried deep breathing but it doesn't help when you have reached that level. I'll definitely watch for this reply.

my pulse runs high to start with much less when in panic mode. my doc put me on high blood pressure meds to help with the high pulse so it's not so high to begin with. it stills feels like it's going to beat out of my chest but doesn't race so fadt anymore. it also is used off label to help with mood swings. have to warn that it has a rebound effect- if you don't take it/stop it suddenly your pulse and blood pressure will shoot up so it has to be taken on schedule and weaned off of if stopped altogether.

Thanks for the posts. At least I know that I am not the only one. It makes sense I guess that when we panic we all have probably the same responses to the adrenaline going through our bodies. Just feels like we will die when we go through it but of course never do.

I wonder about what does it mean when my blood pressure is fine, but my pulse rate is high. What is that doing to my veins, or is it nerve impulses that is giving the high pulse rate? Does anyone know?

Paisleegreen. I wondered the same thing last month when I went to my doctor. My blood pressure was only 130/80 but my pulse was high from being panicky. I guess I should have asked my doctor.

Charles--I saw a family Dr out of state for neck pain. I told him my "story". He checked my BP and Pulse and then prescribed Xanax and Muscle Relaxants! Didn't I just tell him that I won't take them or when I did I had my first panic attack! LOL! Long story. Anyway, I could call his office and find out what my pulse was. My BP was high when I saw my GYN right after I had my first panic attacks, but has gone down since I was put on Remeron since then.

I used to be afraid that my heart WOULD slow down and just stop.

It hasn't so far.

Wow, I haven't had that fear. I guess I did when just before my panic attack. I had a massage the previous day, so didn't need to take a Restoril to sleep. Then the next day, saw a Physician Assistant for my eyes, and then commented on neck pain due to massage, not bad, but he gave me free Soma. Then later that night I took a Restoril. It worked so quickly that it scared me and to me to my first panic attack!

What a whole new can of worms that opened up!
