I take pharmaceutical grade nutritionals. I've tried 5htp products in the past. It depends on the individual. I've read good reviews on line in another forum for others, depends on dosage and time of day taken. I had a friend who was ADD and it helped her a lot. I took another kind a year ago at bedtime bc that's what I read and I woke up angry but not the same for others. I started taking these during the morning, I have so much on my life plate at this time bringing me down that I hope for results. Not noticable yet for me. I read taking 5Htp w/carbs is better than with protein. Good carbs are veggies not breads. Exercise increases seratonin and sweating gets rid of toxic build up...including bad emotions. I just joined a club and going for Zumba or Pilates to help (kickboxing seems more appropriate but I might hurt myself)

As a gastric bypass patient I am hesitant to take anything. They recently tried me on cymbalta, abilify, seroquel and then pristiq. After developing a gastric bleed (now under control) and now having gastritis as a result I do not want to take anything other than those supplements for my GP. I do take .25 to .5 ativan occasionally.

I took the supplements from july 18,2010 to august 1st i thought i was doing okay but then started getting alot of neck and head pain and noticed my blood pressure goin up iv never had blood pressure  in my life just sinus tachycardia so i decided to stop taking good days and only bought 5-htp alone from now products 50mg dose i tried 2 times a day instead one at night before bed and other in morning but i noticed that the 5-htp gave me lots of anxiety and panics attacks and my body was waking up earlier than ever with anxiety at 5 to 6AM ever day this happens like clock work on aug 4 my 16th day is when i started taking one at night and one in am of the regular 5-htp not good days, on 17th day double dose again one in pm and one in am this day was horrible i had alot of anxiety,nervousness and head and neck pain felt dizzy and my blood pressure rose from 140/100, then since i work at hospital got scared at went ot er to have final check on their monitors and bp was 157/100 the nurse told me to calm down and relax for a while retook bp3 to 5min later and bp had come down to 138/83 i had also too 1/2 of xanax of 0.25 at 12pm but i think that made it worse. so as of today im stopping taking 5-htp and good days and see how i feel without it to see if it really was the 5-htp or the other herbs in good days combine!!

Funny, I never noticed anything good in my mood unless good things start to happen.  No pill has ever made me feel like a million dollars or even just "good".  good healthy food,  exercise, sunshine, good friends, good times and relaxing are the best ingredients for getting yourself back together again.
