Hard to start this session
I have been putting off session 2 for over a week. For years I thought that I had my panic under some control. What I was doing was avoiding everything that caused me to have anxiety. My life has come to an almost complete standstill. After listening to the CD i felt this sense of being a little more empowered. it feels great to know I'm not alone. I can't believe I am actually on a message board. This is new for me.
Aylar - It may seem scary at first to start session 2, but do it anyway! I feel that the more we understand our panic attacks, the less power they have over us. For myself, I felt very anxious when I had to describe or talk about my panic attacks because it was almost like by "going into detail about the attacks" I had to relive them. Breathing techniques really helped me.
One quote from the book will apply very well here. "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten"
You are going to have the anxiety and panic regardless of what you do right now. The chances of overcoming it without taking the steps is very slim. You could continue to avoid taking the steps and you will prolong the condition which means years and years of anxiety and panic or you can be brave and take the opportunity to end the panic attacks and lose the fear of anxiety. You can also use us as support too.
The key is in how you think about it. We are all motivated by pain and pleasure. We want the pleasure and want to avoid the pain. You seem to have told yourself that doing lesson 2 is going to cause you more pain than it would pleasure. Perhaps it would help you to research the effectiveness of working through diffrent ways to overcome anxiety and depression.
