AS much as I wish this were not true I think you are correct :(

Sarahj,
Rather than type my story all over again I am linking one of my first posts here a few years ago about what helped me win my battle with anxiety and finally get off of my meds. I hope it is helpful to you.

Hi chrissy,
This is my favorite thread you linked and as you can see by my responses on there and what has helped me stay med free as well. Thanks for making me aware of it.

I swear by klonopin (cloanzepam) and xanax (alprazolam) but they might now be for everyone.

Don't make me blush at my computer lol :) Seriously it is always the best feeling to hear that my advice was useful to others. How does the saying go? If it helps just one person then it will have been worth it. Or something similar to that. Hope you are well and I just replied to one of your other posts a minute ago :)

Hi Sarah, I just joined the program, and have tried a number of meds with no success! I just started with therapy and also a Naturopath and will begin Homeopothy, so I hope that will be useful, I will let you know how it goes!

I have been haven panic attacks since 1993 thou at the time i didnt really know thats what it was,i spent the next 4 years fighting this disorder without meds,i always thought it would just go away, but that was never the case every year it got worse, around 1997 i finally went to get help,i was prescribed paxil,i figure ok i scared of taking meds but i was tired of the panic attacks,so that same day being very scared i took it,waiting for what would happen i remember feeling a bit spacey but that was about it,well later that night not sure what happen, but while on the med i felt a panic come and let me tell what a feeling talk about bad reaction my blood felt like it was fire, very terrifying experience,it was the first time i took mes and it sure was the last, fast forward to today 2/10/2010,i was giving xanax and i been told the pros and cons from it,but i was tired of fighting this alone with just audio tapes and words of hope, took me at least 2 hours of walking back and forth looking at the xanax on the table, then after a quick inpulse i said ok now or never,i took it,and i will admit i was a bit freaked out,i was like i poisoned my self im going to go crazy useing this, etc, etc, etc so i freaked for about 10-15 min then i started to feel calm and happy, and ley me tell you for someone like me who never used a med for 15years until today,i for once feel hope, some of us need to face the truth,we can listen to a cd or watch a video and not take meds, but some of us really have to due to chemical imbalance in the brain,so dont be afraid cause anyway it gos what will you lose, your panic and anxiety symptoms,i think its well worth the risk to feel better then to live day end and day out with these symptoms so take it from me take your meds if you really need it,uts there for a reason.

I'm glad the meds are helping you but highly encourage you to try learning to counter your thoughts in TEA forms while you are on meds. It's the best coping skill I have learned and cbt has been clinically proven to change your brain's chemistry over time. I was on meds for a long time before I learned how to use the TEA forms and got off of them all several years ago and feel better than I ever have now. Take care :)
