Frustrating feelings.
I have been fighting acid reflux for several years now and have recently checked into the ER for pain in my left arm and tingling in the left side of my face. Doctors told me I was fine. Since then I have had a number of occasions were this has happened and have just ignored it. This morning I woke up suddenly, I had this strange feeling like there was an ice cube pressed up against the left side of my forehead but it was warm to the touch and my heart was racing. The feeling slowly seemed to dissipate and my heartrate normalized and now I'm left with the usual tingling feeling in the left side of my face. Doctors have told me I'm okay in the past. I don't know if its all in my head or if this is just the culmination of things from worrying over the years. Has anyone ever had these feelings before?
I have not experienced facial numbness, but do experience this in my hands when sleeping. I contribute this to my being overweight and is now on a weight reduction plan. But when I read your email, I thought about all the years I had been under stress as an abused child and abused wife. I can only imagine the impact this has had on me both mentally and physically. I have had to put on a front for many years compensating for the irresponsibility of others. There seem to be so much I can relate to my being depressed. I believe I am getting better because I have order this program. I pray you find peace about the strange feeling on the side of your face.
Hey Your in good company.
Yes, yes and yes. I too have been in the ER 3 times. 3TIMES over very similar sypmtoms. Chest pain, sharp pain in my shoulder, numbness down my left arm, numbness in my face, neck , hands.
All stress, or acid reflux, and my heart checked out fine.
The first time I was 20. I had acid reflux so bad, I was having bronchiole spasms (sp?) basically the muscle that push your food down seized up and I couldn't swallow well, drink fine, and I had terrible chest pain. They gave a shot of maalox and sent me home. Most expensive shot of maalox ever!! ( ha ha!)
Then fast forward 10yrs later, over 30, heart murmur issues in the family. and get the above symptoms. I thought ( i'm the young woman getting a heart attack!!!) I"m the remote possiblity! My husband drove me to the ER, I checked out fine. The numbness, tingling pain, all dissapaited once we got to the parking lot of the ER. I still had a ekg, done. They said stress and sent me home. I followed up with a cardiologist. she scheduled me for some tests. However before I had those done I was back at the ER with irregular heartbeat and feeling like Icouldn't breathe. My husband again, bless his heart took me to he ER. This time I tried another one, just in case this one was better. And the ER doc did EKG and other tests. She looked at me and kinda annoyed, said. Stress.
I saw my cardiologist, did the stress test, halter moniter, and ultrasound of the heart. All good.
So now, when I get chest pain, or numbness, I think, "how long ago did I eat?" usually pretty close, within 30 minutes. Also I ask "am I stressed? too much caffeine? too little sleep? Not enough exercise? yes , yes and yes. Sometimes you won't even feel anxious, but life events can build over time, and hit you like a wall and you won't really know why, b/c you've handled it well so far.
I once has someone say Anxiety/life it's like running a marathon, you feel good while doing it, and when you stop and rest, you wake up sore like truck hit you. Sometimes it'll sneak up on us and we're feeling funny for seemily no particular reason, when it's just residual stress from past events.
Go see your doctor to put your mind at ease, then do some positive talk, i'm okay, it's just weird body thing i do sometime. i'll be alright.
(Actually my face is twitching and tingling while I write this. )
Also I HIGHLY recommend looking up 'charlie brown' in posts, he posted something about weird body symptoms and how to accept them, and get past them, even if we don't have a exact pinpoint answer for what it could be.
I like to know exactly what my body is doing. but we focus in soo much, we can overly worry, even 'normal' people get weird symptoms, but the difference is they shrug is off, while we focus on it. True story.
We'll be okay. I hope this helps. i'll be praying for you, much peace and prayers tonite.

I"m sorry enigma, I really didn't talk about the face numbness much, okay here goes,
the higher my stress, anxiety is, or hormones out of whack the worse my face can feel, I've had weird shooting pains in my head ( tension headaches) jaw aches, numbness under my cheek bones, numbness tingling in my temples, down my left cheek, in my lips and tongue, my tongue alot acually. in my nose. lovely I know. my achey jaw a Nurse practictioner told me was TMJ. though I think stress and facial tension brought it on. I close my eyes, take a few deep breaths, go limp, you don't realize how tense you are until you tell yourself to go limp, and most importantly just relax, easier said than done. Find somthing to do I find it will go away. Your racing heart is also a telltale sign of anxiousness. It's not uncommon to wake up anxious w/ a headache, tingling etc. Partly we 'expect it'. so tell yourself it will go away, and youre gonna have a good day today. I may still have symptoms, but the postive message diminishes the effects I feel considerabley until I notice"hey my face feel normal again" that's about when the symptoms come back.
Hang in there. Just know your not alone! Much peace adn prayers, we'll be fine.
