Today my new dr prescribed Wellbutrin for my anxiety. She seems to think it will work wonders for me (of course this was my first appointment with her). The only medication I have ever taken is xanax. I've read that wellbutrin is for depression and only makes anxiety worse. I'm sure I have some underlying depression but my serious issue is with anxiety. Can someone share their experience with this? I don't want something with sexual side effects or weight gain so this seemed like it could be the answer but I don't want increased anxiety.

Before I was on lexapro, I tried wellbutrin. Within the first week I developed an all over rash and an increase in the depressive, anxious thoughts. Turns out I was allergic to it. Hopefully your experience is better.

Good luck!

Hello Melissaannb,

I have been on wellbutrin for about a year now after trying several different meds. Everyone reacts differently to each medication so you have to give the meds a chance.

Don't set yourself up for anxiety by worrying about it. Take the meds as prescribed and if you don't have any immediate side effects give it at least a month to see if it helps.

But if you feel worst by all means call your doctor. I do not take anything that makes me feel drugged during the day or makes me feel ill. I will not trade one symptom for another.

Wellbutrin is supposed to help with weight loss, but since I take other meds it hasn't done that for me. Although I haven't gained, I can't seem to lose.

I also just started walking for exercise for the first time in a couple of years. I am always afraid of over exerting myself, because I suffer from fybromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

Just before this program I began changing my eating habits and I have been walking 3 days a week the past two weeks.

I guess I really do need to talk tonight. I hope I have helped you some.

Thank you so much to everyone for your replies. I'm going to give it a chance. Although, I just lost health insurance and the generic for this drug is $140 a month with no insurance, but I'm going to try it anyhow.
