I take klonopin occasionally as needed. It has been a life saver for me. I don't need it as much now that I have started this program. I have been taking it for four years on an as needed basis. I am not afraid of it. I can start and stop it whenever I wish.

Hi Melissa,

I have been on clonazapam same as Klonopin now since 1996 for restles leg syndrome. It has helped that issue completely. I know some don't like the drug but I have not had any side affects from it personally. I am on 2mg's once a day at bedtime.

I have gone off it several times due to the cost and no drug plan and the only affects I had were that my restless leg syndrome was back in full swing.

Hope I helped.

Good Luck

Don't be scared of Benzo's. I hear Klonopin is a good one. I take ativan but would like to take Klonopin. I heard it stays in your system longer so you don't need to take them as often. If you were prescribed it by a dr you trust, than you probably need it. Don't be afraid. Are you also on an anti- depressant? And when you get off of them your dr will plan out a tapering schedule for you and that will ensure you wont get withdrawls. At least not any bad one like if you quit cold turkey. Good luck my dear, and they wont kill you!!! They help a lot of people!

Hi! I have been taking this medicine for many years now, I take half a pill in the morning and half in the evening. I have been on many other meds before this and I like this one the best. It just helps me take the edge off. If Im having a rough day, I take on around 3. I hope you find comfort in my post. I highly recommend this pill!
God Bless

I also take this med. Actually Clonazapam - same thing. I am thankful for it. It really takes the edge off but you don't feel drugged up. I believe it has a 6 hour life so if you don't like it you can just stop taking it and the effects should be gone after 6 hours.

I have to interject here. Klonopin has a way longer half life than 6 hrs once you reach a therapeutic level, or have a constant level of the drug in your system. DO NOT EVER JUST STOP TAKING IT, it can cause seizures as you withdrawal if you stop abruptly. I take this medicine and have for years off and on, and can tell you that once you are on it for a few months straight, you WILL withdraw if not tapered SLOWLY. It will make you sleepy and sluggish at first, but usually after a week or so you get used to that. The info on the drug says after chronic use, it can be up to 3 days before you feel the withdrawal effects, so skipping a dose is not so bad, but you will know it in a few days if you stop cold turkey. That said, I love this med. It has kept me alive, and pulled me out of some deep dark places. I am currently on a wean back down, because I don't want to take a benzo my whole life, however, if necessary, I will. Its not usually a take as needed med, because unlike Ativan and Xanax, its not quick, takes up to 45 min to an hour to really start working....and full effect can take up to 3 hrs. Don't be afraid to take a medication if its what you need to help out now. However, try to find other ways once you are in a better place from the med, and learn to cope with less and less meds if possible. We can all do it. Best of luck.

Absolutely all true!!!!

I was put on it for RLS and yes if I go more than 3 days without it I have returning symptoms. I have not gone more than 5 days without taking it as my legs act up too bad without it but knowing all I do about this med I would never just drop it. It must be done gradually. Meds can be very usefull when used properly and nobdy should fear a med prescribed by a good doctor you trust. Sometimes it's too tough to make a go without an AD or AA med. Trust your doctor or get a second opinion but don't just suffer needlessly out of fear.

Just my thoughts.

Well Wishes To All !!

I agree with Want2feelGoodAgain. I use to take klonopin for about 8 months and had some serious withdrawal effects when I stopped cold turkey for a particular reason. Do some research on the drug if you haven't because it can help with asking your doctor questions that you may not know to ask. If you take it make sure you follow your doctor's advice and the information that is provided with the medication. It is a common medication and just like any other medication you have to take it as directed.
