Hi!

I started the program a few weeks ago (am on session 4 now) after going through a winter of symptoms of stomach problems, burning feeling in my chest/throat, and a throat that tightens on and off. I had an upper GI and endoscopy, both which revealed no acid. However, I've been on Nexium since February and I'm starting to question if I even need it. I started weaning myself of - taking every other day. I never had indigestion before so I don't know if this is it. Could my anxiety be causing this? It all came on so suddenly (again, never had before). Will it go away once my anxiety gets better?

Did your endoscopy reveal any scars from previous ulcers either in your stomach or esophogus (I know that's not spelled right)?
My burning comes and goes. Sometimes there is too much acid, sometimes it is fine. The flap preventing the acid from entering the esophogus doesn't work properly, thus the ulcers there.
I've found when I stopped the stomach medicine (Prilosec), I was fine until the next attack when I had to play catch up to get it under control. It's much easier and there is less pain by staying on the med consistently. Sort of a preventative type measure.
I do believe the anxiety causes extra production of stomach acid. It's just a pattern I see, though I've never specifically asked a doctor. The less anxiety, the less stomach problems.

The endoscopy did not reveal and scarring, strictures, or redness/irritation. There weren't any ulcers, either. The GI doctor was denying that I have any acid, but wen I questioned him about the burning feeling he couldn't gie an answer. He said the only way to find out if there is acid present is to have a 24-hour probe inserted into my nose and down into my esophagus. I'm really not ready to do that, so I think I'll live with it. He also wanted to stretch my esophagus to see if the symptoms of tightening would be relieved. That makes me nervous.

I agree. I wouldn't go there unless it was unbearable. Hopefully, the symptoms will soon decrease as you work the program.

Hello, this could be part of your symptoms. When mine was at it's worse, I stayed sick at my stomach alot. I continue to take Protonix and have irritable stomach and irritable bowel with mine. If the nexium works stay with it.
