Does anyone else take Visteral? I was given it by my doctors about a month ago. Because of my extreme phobias about taking medication, I have not taken it yet. It is suppose to help with my anxiety. I really don't want to take anything all the time when I only have occasional anxiety attacks.

I have bad med phobias but i have taken visteril. I loved it don't make you feel weird, maybe a little sleepy at first but does help. It is very mild almost like beneidryl,so don't expect it to make everything all better, however it does help.Give it a try i'm sure you'll like.

I swear either I'm having a Deja Vu or this was just here. Anyway, yes, I was given Vistaril as a shot, in the butt cheek, in my docs office one day when I went full blown panic on them. I felt like such an idiot. It was a wonderful calm, relaxed and then sleepy feeling. As the above poster said, it is an antihistimine like Benadryl, but BIGGER :) Some docs prescribe this instead of your Benzos (Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin) etc. because it is not habit forming, and no withdrawal. I think you'll feel sleepy, but will adjust quickly. Best of luck.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I feel better now about taking it. Do you take it on an as needed basis or took it daily?

I do think it is like Ativan and Xanax and is a take as you need basis. The Klonopin I am on, some say they take as needed, but is inteded to reach a therapeutic level, and even calm. But like I said, all of these are benzos and can be addictive, and have withdrawall symptoms. If Vistaril does it for you, you will be way better off. Give it a try and think positive. We often can make up our minds about meds before we even try them and not give them a fair shake. Good luck
