I've got a precrip for 25mg Zoloft, but haven't taken it yet until I finish these antibiotics (2 more days). I've taken Lexapro in the past and it's not as scary as you think. The first couple days can be a little rough, queasiness, dizziness, insomnia, and oddly in my case, a back ache. By the end of the week though I started to feel better depression/anxiety wise and in went up exponentially from there. I was always scared of going on because I heard bad stuff about going off. I only stayed on for 4 months (I do little 4 month stints to reset my serotonin levels which lasts a couple years), and it was EASY to wean off. If you stay on longer, it's probably harder to go off obviously, but even then, it's probably easier than you're thinking it is.

It is a great starting point and it depends on you physiology and level of anxiety. I started on 12.5 and slowly moved up to 50mg. I did feel a difference at 25mg but it was not quite enough for me. Everyone is different but I can honestly say that it helped me get my life back.
Always around if you need help.

Thanks Melissa. I went up to 50mg. How exactly did it help you?

I had a major fear of dying and it was very difficult for me to get off of the couch, mind you, I have a full time job. Go back and look at some of my older threads and you can see all that I was going through. I still have some anxiety from time to time, especially during that special time of the month but nothing like it was. I'm living a pretty normal life right now.

Yesterday was my first day and overall the side effects were mild, especially compared to my experience with Lexapro. Here's what happened:
-mild drowsy spacey feeling
-exhilerated feeling (I'm feeling positive about taking this...if I felt negative about it, I might have experienced it as anxiety or agitation)
-weird buzzing prickly feeling on my skin at one point-lasted only a little while, and I checked: it's listed as a possible side effect. Happened later in the day.
-woke up in the middle of the night anxious-but that's normal for me so I'm not sure if that's a side effect or not.
-appetite seemed to be improved. Often I have to force myself to eat, and don't enjoy it when I do.
Well, I just took my second dose. If it follows the same pattern as Lexapro did, it should get bettter every day...

Well, I'm on day 3 and am sorry to say, Zoloft is a no-go for me. Two side effects happened which are troubling: dilated pupils and extreme nausea (that came on last night). I don't know if the two things are related, they might be. I searched it, and both side effects are fairly common and should subside but they're deal-breakers for me. The pupil thing is just weird and the as far as the nausea, well...I just can't lose weight. Loss of appetite and IBS are major symptoms of my anxiety, so I need something that will hopefully offset that, or at least not make it worse.
I had a good experience on Lexapro 3 years ago, so I'll follow-up with a prescrip. for that if I can't get this anxiety under control with the program and other self-help tools.
Experience on SSRI's are extremely variable from person to person. As the disclaimer goes..."results not typical, results may vary"
