Hi All,
3 days ago I started on Lopressor 25g ( beta have blocker) for heart palpitations/ skipped beats.
Can any one tell me if they have experience this drug and if so, how long did it take before you began to have relief. All I am experiencing is low blood pressure and feeling light headed.
to start I was told to cut the pill in half to 12.5 and try it for a few days. If it worked, stay on the 12.5, if not take 1/2 in am and 1/2 in the pm. I am now taking the two recommended doses but I am still experiencing skipped beats.
Has any one had success with this medication?
If so PLEASE share.
Thank you and God bless

Hello Kim:
I started taking this Beta Blocker in late 2004.
I have taken it every since. It helped me a lot. Still does.
I started on 50 mlg per day and still take that dose.
It helped a great deal but didn't do away with all the palpatations until I learned how to relax more. I had to work on reducing the stress along with the medication. I still take
50 mlg. per day.
I'm pretty calm these days.

Hello Cornflower,
Thank you for your reply. I greatly appreciate all your help. I have been on it for 3 days now.
I see that they have decreased a little but not all. They are so annoying and frightening. In fact, I was so overwhelmed by them this past weekend, that I took work off today and spent it in bed. Probably not the answer to this problem. It just seems like they are consuming me. How long before the med helps????
I hope it is soon
Hugs to you,
Kim

Kim,
I know how uncomfortable it is. Just hang in there. They told me that they wouldn't really be dangerous.
I had just got out of hospital when they prescribed the beta blocker for me. My heart rate was so fast and of course, the skipping beats ,etc. They had done an angio-gram on me.
But my heart was okay.
It was anxiety.
The more you worry about this , the worse it will feel.
So if you could just distract yourself. Do you like to read?
I do. I like novels.
And I found that if I'd try to lose myself in a good book that those palpatations would slow down.
Anything that you like to do and that will get your mind off your worries will cause the slowing of that.
Just try to be good to yourself.
And don't try to solve the world's problems.
Learn to let go of stuff. You have to - so you'll be comfortable.
Best wishes

Kim Doc,
I have had to take the generic for Lopressor (Metoprolol) for fast heart rate. I have been to a cardiologist, had numerous EKGs, worn the heart monitor for 30 days, but nothing was wrong with my heart. It was anxiety. The cardiologist at the ER gave me that med when I initially started having panic attacks. My heart rate was so high that they had to give me a beta blocker to slow it down.I took 12.5 mg of that whenever my heart would race and it would slow it down. I noticed that I would feel weak sometimes when I first got on that med, but I think it was a mixture of the anxiety and depression also. I will say that pill did regulate my heartbeat, and I never had to take it any longer than maybe a week off and on or two weeks here and there, and once I got the anxiety under control, the heart rate went down and I no longer needed the beta blocker. I still keep that medicine on hand for emergency-cases, because I make sure that I have it in case I get very anxious like that again and can not seem to get it down on my own.
I will say it worked well for me.

Hello,
thank you so much for all you support.
The Lopressor seems to be working with the skipped beats. The only thing that seems to be negative with it, is my blood pressure is VERY low. When I sat with the Electro Cardio Physiologist, I explained that I do not have high blood pressure and my fear was that it would drop too low. He assured me that I would be fine and the pressure would not drop. Well... sure enough, this morning I awoke and felt light headed. So I took out the old trusty blood pressure kit. To my suprise I was still standing with a blood pressure of 90/68.
At first when he perscribed the medication, he told me to try a 1/2 a pill a day. If I have no relieve with the skipped beats, to go to a 1/2 in the am and 1/2 at bed.
So with 1/2 I was getting no relief with the skipped beats and I went to the 1/2 and 1/2.
Now, I am checking with him to see if I should go back to the 1/2 a day.
Whew! What a mess!!!!!
God Bless you for your kindness and may he contiune to bless you with PEACE.
Kim
