Clonazepam

Post by LyndaLu » Wed Mar 21, 2012 9:44 pm

Is anyone taking Clonazepam for anxiety ? I have been taking it for about 5 years.
How long does it take to wean yourself off of this medication and what are the
side effects of doing so ? I take 1-3 pills per day, depending on how I feel.
I believe the dosage is 0.05mg for each pill. Thanks for your help.

I'm not a doctor but I weaned down with the advice of one. I'll tell you what we did. He wanted me to go down .5 mg each week. 4mg to 3.5mg, 3.5mg to 2mgs, and so on. I took longer than that. I needed more time than a week for each step. I started in Nov. and my last pill was in March. I didn't like the withdrawal so I began to take .25mg a day. Not liking it so much but I will see if I want to wean off at all. My anxiety came back and I am not having it in my life so I need to discuss it with my doctor and see if I can/should take something else. Follow a doctors orders tho and speak to a pharmacist. They know best. Good luck!

I am not having much faith in pharmacists lately, ever since a pharmacist told my mom
it would be okay for her to take a specific type of over the counter cold
medicine. My mom has heart problems and my mom got sick enough to end up in the
hospital probably from taking the cold medicine. The heart condition and heart
medications did not mix well with the cold medicine that my mom took.

I know what you mean about pharmacists. I never thought to ask about the anti - anxiety and anti - depressant drugs. I'm so glad I did. He made me feel so much better when my doctor couldn't. Good luck!

I quoted my dosage wrong in my first post. My dosage is 0.5 mg.
I am taking one 0.5 pill per day at the moment. I don't notice any side
effects from lowering my dose each day
except maybe lack of concentration, but that could be
attributed to just about anything. Lynda
