Hello everyone. Hope all is well. I have GAD and have been taking xanax ever day for a 1 1/2 years. I never took more then 1 mg (in total) in a day separated in .25mg 4x day. Right now I am down to .125mg/ 3 to 4 times a day. A total of .375 - .5mg a day. How should I wean off it from here. I'm hearing all these horror stories that I could go into seizures. Can this happen on such a small dose? I'm scared! I want to get pregnant and don't want to and can't be on this stuff anymore. Please help me!
Take Care!

Hi Jenny. First on't be scare about. I know thats easily said. I was not on xanax. I was taking klonopan. I to was careful not to take more than 1mg a day. Secondly make sure you speak with your doctor before stopping or weanning off. Thats what I did. I weanned off in 4-6 weeks. Thats been since early this year. Now I only use it when it's really have too. I do alot of positive self-talk and pray. Follow your doctors direction. No need to worry or fear about seizures. Yor hold on, praying for you.

Thank you Robert! Yah, my doctor says I can just get off it cold turkey because of the amount that I take. But that's just my GP saying that. Maybe I should see a psychologist pr psychiatrist some day to really evaluate what I should do. Ya know! I'm just so frustrated with it all.
Thank you for your prayers. I hope you are doing well!

Hi Jenny, I have been on xanax for almost 10 years...I know not the best. But I was on .25 mg as needed for most of those years. Just this year as panic came back on due to overstress my dr. bumped it up to .5 about every 6 hours. I am getting ready to wean back down as the stress is reduced and I don't want to keep going up and up.... At the dose you are on you don't have to worry about seizures. You are on a very, very low dose. Do you have a dr. that can help you with a weaning off schedule? Take it slow, don't let anyone rush you as that will only make you more anxious. I know you will be able to get off of it no problem. You are stronger than you think you are. ;)
