by Oh to be me again
Has anyone heard of this prescription? I've been dealing with a lot of rashes (not clear yet whether drug reactions or contact allergies) and I have allergies to mold, pollen, etc, that I can no longer take allergy shots for since I am a "heart patient" and on beta blockers. My dermatologist recommended Atarax because it is a combination antihistamine/antianxiety prescription. My cardiologist says OK if the dermatologist wants to prescribe it, but my psychologist says he's never heard of it. Anyone have any advice or experience with this drug? I'm getting desparate--Buspar caused (we think) a rash, Lexapro and Zoloft make me horribly nauseated. Ativan is the only thing I can take with no reaction (thus far). Also, does anyone have any recommendation for an antidepressant that doesn't cause nausea?
Thank you.

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I have taken atarax before. I had a bad reaction to morphine which started my anxiety and panic and my doctor put me on it along with ativan and protonix. My experience with it was a good one. I had hives due to the morphine and they cleared right up not to mention that it did help with my anxiety. I also take ativan as needed but honestly haven't needed it since August of 07. If your not doing the program yet I recommend it, its a wonderful tool and will help you get everything under control. Good luck and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I've had a lot of problems with nausea taking just about everything. The only ones that didn't do that to me were the "oldies" - Surmontil and low dose Prozac. I also noticed that the nausea was directly related to the dosage. I found out that I was a low dose responder - I responded much better to a very low dose rather than the higher recommended one. None of the newer ones did any better for me than the oldies and I wonder if the new anti's are just the same old versions of the older ones.

Thanks to Amy and Mary for their replies. Again, I think many of my problems are from allergies/sinus drainage. My dad suffers from horrible sinus problems and is always sick in the morning. I got a lot of stuff out of my head this morning and took a Mucinex and I feel better now, but was VERY nauseous this morning. I never realized until I was first diagnosed with allergies last year that allergies can make you sick at your stomach. The very smell of food turns me nauseous when I'm having what my good, old-fashioned family doctor called a "histamine attack." He gave me a steroid shot and I felt better in hours. Of course, that was before my atrial fibrillation and the subsequent two cardioversions and strong meds that I'm on now which prevent me from taking allergy shots or steroids of any kind. Does anyone have any hints for dealing with sinus/allergy problems that affect the stomach?
