I have been on effexor for 5 years. The pharmisicist gave me a generic awhile because it was much cheaper. I didn,t feel the difference, but when I went back to refill the perscription the pharmisist told me my doctor wanted me to go back on effexor. The doctor felt it worked better. I would guess that's from feedback from other patients. I only feel the difference in my pocket book. There is a 30.00 difference between effoxor and the generic!(for one month)

My pharmacy switched my Zoloft prescription to generic. I have been feeling like it hasn't been working as well, so I asked my doctor about it. She said the generic isn't always as strong and doesn't work as well. My dad had a bad reaction to a generic and went back to the regular. I think I am going to go back to regular too!

I also have taken effexor for 10 years and tried the generic. I just felt some weird sensations and some "off balance" feelings - when I returned to the regular prescription those went away. However, could it be our anxiety that makes us feel like their is a difference? We seem to psyche ourselves out on any little change we do. All I can say is try it, if you don't have any problems then switch!

I have had reactions from switching to generic. My Dr. told me that she doesn't want me on the generic since it won't work as well. I found that out with my birth control. For the whole month that I was on it I was miserable and had cramps everyday.

My Mom was on blood pressure medication and after 20 years switched it to the generic and she broke out in hives. Since they weren't making the brand anymore she had to switch all of her medications which took a long process.

I used to take the generic for Paxil and actually that's all I ever took! Anyway, it was only $5 for the prescription!
