Stress Center Peer Support

Well my doctor just moved me from paxil to effexor...and I am excited because the paxil wasnt cutting it. I am just wary of the move over from paxil to effexor, has anyone done this? Also, what are the thoughts around here on effexor?

I just recently tapered off effexor and prior to starting it took paxil. Paxil didn't work for me and actually made me feel worse. When I switched from paxil to effexor, my doctor had me take paxil at a lower dose and effexor at the same time for one week before just taking effexor and I didn't have any problems swithching over.


I heard that effexor was effective for alot of people. It didn't make me feel worse like paxil but I just don't respond well to psychotropic medications.

I am the exact opposite. I was weened off of Effexor it absolutely made me crazy..then was switched to Paxil. Everyone is different no one's brain chemicals are the exact same. You just have to find what works for you and stick with it. I know this is a very frustrating thing to go through just hang in there and don't make any decisions without help from your doctor.
