Hi Nicole. I'm Amy. I'm still new at all of this but I wanted to let you know that I have done a lot of research on this drug. Origianlly, my doc prescribed Zoloft and it had the reverse effect and actually made my anxiety worse so then she prescribed Effexor XR. Well, of course I was scared to death to take anything else so I did a lot of research and found that it does help a lot of people however, the downside is that it can be very addictive and extremely hard to get off of. So, I decided not to take it because of that reason. My doc has now prescribed Lexapro and this will only be my 2nd day taking it so I'm not sure about it yet. Of course all meds effect people differently so it may be the best one for you. Good luck and God bless!

Hi from Canada
I've been on effexor for about 5 years. I have had no troubles with it. I have been on it as low as 37.5 and as high as 150g. I am comfortably on a dose of 75 daily right now. The reason for the amount difference was due to personal problems that I now deal much better with. I am not sure of all the side effects, but the help it has brought me greatly outweights the difference. Hope it helps you also, let us know how you are doing. Take care Freckles

Hey Freckles....I am also on Effexor XR 450mg. I know it's a lot. I am weaning myself off of it (under my doc's care) and hopefully not need any type of meds. that is my ultimate goal or will change meds. The reason for this is not because of the med; my body isn't responding to it anymore and I need to get on something new. I have had no problems with it. I do know you can't just stop taking it. The last 2 days I have only taken 300mg and I am ok. Good Luck! I know we all react different to all of these meds. You just have to find the right one.

My brother takes this, 150mg and it has worked really well for him. No adverse effects. I take Lexapro and I love this med, it has been a great choice for me. Just goes to show everyone is different when it comes to meds.

Hi-Debbie D.A. I hope your weaning off goes well. Let me know how you did! I have tried to go off before and did for 6 months. Then I had a relapse of a sort. I am only on a small dose though. Has anyone taken the generic of effexor? My doctor feels it doesn't work as good but the price is alot cheaper, so I thought I would try it. Anyone out there with this knowledge? I appreciate any feed back.

Thanks Freckles.......I pray I can do this; I am so tired of taking medicine. I am going to do 300mg this week, 150 next week and then none. I have heard that it is really hard to get off of it. I would talk to the pharmacist about the generic and see what they say. Good Luck! debbie

Freckles...I am new to the site but do know that the only generic is regular effexxor and not the XR.. My doc made that mistake and suffered for a few days..
I have been on this for 9 years and has been a great drug, but I am wanting to get off just in case I get pregnant..Recently married and really want to try to beat this...I am going every other day on it for now and about to go another day. How did you do it the first time????
Has anyone had as bad of a time getting off of it?? The physical symptoms are horrible and have heard horror stories about some people being hospitalized...
Any suggestions??

Debbie..just read your post and would not reccommend to just quit after 150...If you have never done it, I would be careful and even the higher doses are hard to get off of!!! Is that what your doc recc??
