I'm not sure it's the Lexapro, but we increased my dosage and my sometimes stomach issues since starting on it again (I was on it before without problems) have become daily for hours. I thought I read somewhere on the boards about people having a lot of burping and that type of thing (my main issue seems to be gas related) with Lexapro at first. For anybody experiencing that type of side effect, was there anything that helped make it easier to handle? I've tried antacids, etc. but they seem to not have a lot of effect, might have actually caused other problems. I am upping my xanax a bit due to the extra anxiety caused by the stomach issues. I just feel so sick all afternoon and am barely able to function, feeling like I need to live in the bathroom even though I honestly don't get much relief there.
Any help out there? How long before the side effects such as this went away? How to cope in the meantime?

My mom took one dose of Lexapro and it made her nauseated and sick to her stomach the whole next day. She refused to take it after that.

I take mine at night for this reason, and I also take Klonopin. Its normal. The GABA receptors that help produce the seratonin to make us feel "better" are in our brains and in the lining of the gut....soooo, the Lexapro doesn't care which ones it attatched to, and therefore the upset in GI functions for a week or two.

I have been taking Lexapro for 6 weeks now, and that's supposed to be when you experience the full effect. Is that what you all have experienced? Also, I a on 10mg, what about you?

I've been on Lexapro for 14 days now, and I had stomach issues before but this medicine is definitely provoking them. I've had a lot of gas and consistent mild pain in my abdomen. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with it for any longer or not...it has been good for my depression so I'm afraid to go off of it cold turkey.

The stomache issues will go away. And you should start to see some improvements by week 4, but I now feel the full effects of the med and I feel fantastic and I have been on it for 4 months. Stick with it even if you see small improvements because over time it just gets better

Just to update on this, I am feeling MUCH better now. I seemed to be more sick every other day so when I had a 'good' day I didn't really trust it. But it was really gone. I haven't felt sick at all since then and feel soooo much better. Good 'ol Lexapro has finally kicked in. I think it was because I went up in dosage that it effected me more this time - I probably just thought it was part of my anxiety the last time I went on it.
So all is good here and for anybody dealing with the same issue, try to hold out for a couple of weeks. How I feel now was actually worth the side effects, even though they were really bad. You only have to go through that once, and when it's over...you're golden!
Thanks everybody for the replies. They helped me hang on since I knew it probably was just temporary side effects.
