Hi everyone,

I'm seeing a therapist who recommended that I start taking medication (only enough to help me start to work on my issues). He knows that I'm very against medication but I've been thinking that if it's only a litle bit and only for a little while I may be willing to try.

The thing is, the last time I went on meds (I took Paxil for 5 years and Zoloft for half a year) I gained 25 pounds!!! And had no desire whatsoever. Huge problems and I canNOT have those happen again.

Any experiences with drugs that do NOT have these or other side effects? Thanks for any help

ask your doctor about wellbutrin and lamictal as antidepressants without the side effects you mention

also ask about gabapentin/ neurontin as an anxiolytic (off label use)

Hi,

I too would say Wellbutrin as far as less side affects. It's so different for each individual but everyone I know who has been on it had far less trouble with weight gain and lack of desire.

Good Luck!! :)

I to have been on or tried other meds, was on effexor xl for four and a half years, started on the 37.5, then the not filling much began, my head and face would sweat so bad i stoped using makeup, and just pulled my hair back all the time, i could not cry,and had no desire for sex what so ever.I then went to a DR for pain in my leg,he took me off that and put me on bupropion, and it's worked out good. Wish you luck

wellbutrin is known to have one of the lowest incidences of weight gain and does not cause loss of desire or sexual dysfunction. Iniially you may have dry mouth, shakiness and loss of appetite but a few weeks after you have reached your maintenance dose that will subside.
