I'm on Depakote for about 4 months now and I want to go off of it. My side effects are that my hair is falling out and my body itches all over. That's pretty annoying. Has anyone had experience with Depakote and getting of it? Where you symtom free once you got of it? have you used any natural alternatives instead of Depakote? Any help would be appreciated.

How much depakote are you taking to make your hair fall out? I have been on a low dose of 1500 mg for 13 years and have a full, thick head of hair (at age 45) and it keeps my complexion blemish free. I do have dry skin, but use Nivea on a daily basis to aleviate that.

I just kicked the depakote..after 6 years of feeling like a fat zombie! I slowly weened over a 2 month period and feel awesome! I lost weight already and have my memory back. The reason I had been on this was that they had misdiagnosed me with BP disorder.

IMO, Depakote is EVIL. One of the most horrid meds in existence. There are so many other meds out there that are W A Y better.

i HAVE BEEN ON dEPAKOTE TO PREVENT MIGRAINES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW. i HAVE NOT SPECIFICALLY ATTRIBUTED ANY SIDE EFFECTS TO IT (OOPS CAPS) , however it pretty much does nothing for the headaches. Can someone fill me in on what you folks are using it for?

It's usually used as a mood stabilizer but there are probably doctors who use it off label for other things they feel it may help.

huh, I thought it was an anti seizure med - that's what the doc and the package insert said - regardless it's done nothing for me in the mood department either- i consider it pretty much a waste of time -gonna visit the dr. soon and see if I can get off of it.

Funny- My shrink said years ago he usually used it for mood stabilizing. Oh well. I never did take it anyway.

must be a multipurpose drug - don't find it helps any to prevent headaches anyway- at least not at the dose I am taking - so its fairly useless for me!
