Good morning all,

Besides the many things I have the misfortune of suffering way too much from and many other Chronic Diseases or problems, one is psoriasis.

I have so many nasty and embarrassing patches, it is a great cause for embarrassment and really holds me back from doing things that may have therapeutic value that could help. Like water aerobics to help strengthen my legs and back, and strengthen my heart, all of which I struggle with. I found out several visits ago, through new commercials on medications for psoriasis (meds I can't take b/c of hep b), of the relationship between psoriasis and Rheumatoid arthritis.

I had mentioned, on a previous post, that I started going to an acupuncturist for help with the chronic back pain. Well, she has also been treating me for the psoriasis at the same time. I have now been to 4 treatments. I have noticed a big improvement in the things I have been able to do, like sitting at the computer for longer stretches of time, and being able to walk a little farther without as much discomfort.

However, I have noticed that many of the patches of psoriasis have diminished in size and flakes come off a lot easier when I scrub these areas in the shower. I don't know if these treatments are going to prove to be a cure, but I can tell that so far, I am seeing this improvement.

I have had psoriasis all of my life, as best as I can remember, and have tried so many creams, lotions and potions, and some gave signs of promise, but it always came back and it seemed to come back worse than when I started the treatments.

I have my fingers crossed on this helpful Chinese secret. So if you suffer from this problem you might want to consider this as an option for treatment.

Way to go dude! It's great when people look for alternate routes to healing. My DH's father and brother both have a severe skin condition. It don't think it's psoriasis, but it's a reddening, dry and very thin skin. When the father was young he put a hormone cream on his skin and it caused him to lose his sight. He had surgery on one eye several yearts ago and gained much of if back that way.

Gluten and dairy allergies may be something to also look into.

Keep us posted!

Good for you! I am with you on this one. I do not have psoriasis, I have vitiligo. I am taking Chinese herbal supplements as we speak with no significant change. The social stigmas attached to skin problems are exhausting. My condition started about 5 years ago and when it really started to become noticable, my boss asked me (in a room full of people) what was wrong with my arms. I could have just died. Mind you, he didn't mean to be mean..just poor judgement and timing. You know, the whole room stops and looks. I am actually hoping the program will help me deal better this summer season...you can't wear turtlenecks all year long...I hate cold weather and I actually dread warm weather because I have to show my arms...most noticable. I know that has been a big anxiety producer now that I look back. I sympathize with you and I'm in your corner. Good luck and chin up.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the encouragement. Shifrah, I have always suspected that milk and even the sun was behind it. I have the type of psoriasis that only made is presence during the summer, and I do have intolerance for some diary products, and always had. That was a very good observation.

TLCE, to tell the truth, I went into this to get help for my back and leg pain and I never really had any hope for the improvement of the psoriasis, but so far it seems to be making progress. It seems a good acupuncturist can stick you where you need it and improve what 's needed, that includes a & d d's.

If acupuncture can help with psoriasis there is hope for all of us. It may be worth the try, what have you got to lose? Your disorders? Well, maybe, but you'll never find out unless you give it a try.

Good night all.

Gman5256 I don't have any answers for you but just to let you know you are not alone. I suffer from this to. Especially in the winter I get it on my elbows and knees. Very embarrasing for me becuase I always try to wear shirts that cover my elbows and if I don't I am always covering them with my hands. Last year I had strep throat twice and I broke out with these red spots all over my body and I mean all over. This was in the summer well I went to the skin doctor and he told me it was guttate psosaris. This happens three weeks after an acute virus and guess what it only happens in 2 percent of the population and in young people but I got it anyway and it had to happen in summer. He gave me cream but of course it stated if you use too long you can absorb something or other in the skin and should be careful and have blood work to make sure this does not happen. I don't remember what it was but as you know people with aniexty don't like side effects so I stopped using it. It was very hard for me because it was summer and they were all over my legs. From a distance they looked like misquito bites so I pretended to itch on the beach so no one would think I had some kind of yuckey disease. That was last June and most have faded except of coures the ones on my legs. My daughter goes to the YMCA and my husbands like go swim it would be good for you but I won't because of this and I love to swim. Oh well just thought I would share my experience. One more thing though thank heavens my husband loves me because if I was alone no one would want me.

Hi enough,

Thanks for your comments. Mine was just the opposite. I have always had these out breaks in the summer, and only since I have gotten older do I get it all year long. I really feel for you and the embarrassment you must have felt. I totally understand it.

Most people with out this problem, do not understand what this problem is and look at you (or you project that they are thinking) ugh, that looks disgusting, I don't want to be around that person.

I think at lot of this problem (psoriasis) is a lot more prevalent in people with other disorders, such as liver disorders, and with OCD, and Anxiety and Depression Disorders.

Well, it seems I have found a very good acupuncturist and so far, after 5 treatments in 2 weeks, the results look very promising. I think they can even help with many of the disorders many of us face. I don't know of the folks here could believe that, but it seems like it is something worth looking into. No drugs or other stuff we don't know can or can not do for us, and it can't hurt.

You can try to find a qualified and certified acupuncturist near you, that may be able to help, by going to this link:

I am not flaking out as much now, and that is a good thing.

my daughter suffers from psoriasis, severe, no meds help enough. i bought her a bag of dead sea salt to soak in 3 times a week and it cleared up 100 percent. you do it for 6 weeks and it lasts for 6 months. 130 dollars a bag but lasts about a year. do a search for dead sea salt you will find it.

Hi Spitfire,

Thanks for the information. I want to give the acupuncture treatments that I am receiving. However, I will keep this in mind. I want to make sure that by mixing up treatments, I end up not knowing what it was that made the difference. Thanks so much for your concern and for your suggestion.
