Is this the one by Norman Vincent Peale? I have read a couple others of his and they are inspiring. I have two books I have recently gotten out and they have really been helpign me. I think this is the guy who started guideposts magazine. He has lived a very positive life and believes strongly in positive thinking. He lived to be 90 something and in good health and enjoyed his life immenslely. Do not toss the book yet, but keep reading and glean all you can from it and overlook the stuff you dont care for. He is very practical and it will help to train your mind to think more positively and therfore feel better.

Today is the very first I have been diligent about overseeing mt negative thinking. I definitely have experienced happiness.
I have been on meds for 17 yrs since going off alcohol/drugs. I have been in therapy several times once for 7 yrs.I watched & believed "The Secret". I did. I do. But the minutes turn into hours and the hours turn into days and before I knew it I was thinking about...my neighbor ignored his dog and what was I gonna do? I'm broke again what am I gonna do?
I believe Lucinda is right in saying the negative thinking is an addiction. I know feeling down feels normal to me. I just do not want it to anymore. I am 49 yrs old. I have been ashamed of my life for so long. I haven't been very proud of my 20 yrs of sobriety because my life still felt so hard. I have had some relief from lithium and meds for ADD & depression. But nothing re leaves the FEAR. NOTHING. I have never had kids. I had abortions. I knew the rage inside of me would transfer to a child.I am alone most all the time due to the isolation of all the above but now I am identifying that it also because of my ENOURMOUS EXPECTATIONS & all the disappointments I have allowed.I have always done this and been aware of it. I do not know how I'm gonna do this.I have started and stopped so many things. I do not have the money for this now and am starting over in my life again in another city...I cannot think about that because the worry has already begun.I'm gonna listen to a tape. Thank you for reading and please respond.

knowing that the answer is Christ will not help you if you do not have a really good relationship with the Bible. I highly recommend Joyce Meyer materials to learn how to understand scripture.
Otherwise it's like knowing food is the answer to hunger without knowing where to get any food.

I just came on here for the first time. I ordered the materials about an hour ago. I have been going around readint different forums.
I wanted to comment on this. Your reminded me of other times when I have allowed myself to get swallowed up by depression and fear and negativity. I remember readint Norman Vincent Peale and getting his tapes and listening to them in the car, before CD's. I appreciate being reminded of this. I also agree that Joyce Myer has some strong and helpful ideas.

hi everyone. i haven't read the book the power of positive thinking but it sounds very interesting...maybe will give it a try. just wanting to respond to susie's post...susie i hope you hang in there. it is true that negative thinking can fully overtake our lives to the point where it completely dictates every single action that we make. but it is also true that WE ourselves have the power to change our negative thinking into positive thinking. i know it is much, much easier said than done, believe me, i know. but hang in there girl. keep trying and applying all the tools that you have available to you and just be patient with yourself; just take it one day at a time....wishing you much, much peace and success in your journey....(and i apologize if i sounded too preachy because i truly didn't mean to hahahaha)

I loved the book and wrote down many qoutes and recite them daily. It has also opened up my belief system to god, and I have met alot of amazingly positive people since and it all helps me with the anxiety and fear.

I have had this book for years and then revisited it again recently. I found it to be very helpful!!! Probably one of the best books I have read in relation to the entire "negative thinking" topic. I, too, had a hard time the first time around. However, sticking with it this time has made a big difference. I too encourage you to stick with it. I think you will find it to be very beneficial.

I totally agree that the book is very inspiring. Even though Dr Peale refers to Christ, he does it as a way to help us clean our subconscious of negative material we stored in there and gives us affirmations that help "encrypt" the positive in the NEW memory he urges us to achieve.
