has anyone here developed a panic disorder because of recreational drug usage? to me it seems as if it's different for me to recover from it because i didn't develop a panic disorder due to stress. it's like i have a different version of the disorder compared to regular anxiety/panic. can anyone give me some feed back

So you had a panic attack while using drugs...I haven't, but my ex-boyfriend did. The thing about getting better is this...

You had the panic attack itself because of the drugs. But usually you have panic disorder because you are afraid of the feelings during a panic and begin to anticipate them coming and bring them on etc. You begin to obsess about them..and thus develop panic disorder to where you are having them all the time.

With that being the case...the recovery (or atleast parts of it) is still the same. Learning what is happening to your body during an attack, the self talk you use, doing the exercises to not fear the sensations during the attack so that they stop happening....
This will still help you overcome the disorder, even though your initial attack wasn't brought on by stress or possibly not by negative thinking to begin with. If you weren't a negative/obsessive thinker before and the drugs brought it on...then you became a negative/obsessive thinker about the attack after..thus bringing them on now. It will still work for you.
