Hi there. Can anyone recommend a good exercise video? It's too cold to walk outside most days lately and sometimes I can't manage to get myself to the gym. I'm thinking something inexpensive, fun, beginner level and not requiring equipment. So I guess something like aerobics/dance, but I'm open to ideas.

Thanks!

Do you have cable? Check and see if you get Fit TV. They have some awesome programs, including one called "Shimmy" which is basic belly dancing! woo hoo! I'm going to do it tonight. Have you tried yoga? I recommend the Gaiam series featuring Rodney Yee which you can get at Target. You don't have to have a yoga mat to do yoga. I also like the raviana kundalini yoga DVDs available on amazon.com Have fun and enjoy working out inside!

Hi There GetWellSoon! And same wishes to you :) I have a bunch of different videos that I am VERY happy with. I definitely agree with cuttingirl - Gaiam's the way to go! I have bad knees and a bad hip, so I can't do a lot of high impact stuff. So Billy Blanks taebo is about as far as my at-home cardio goes, but what I REALLY love, are the videos by Gaiam. Rodney Yee is very good, but in particular, there are 4 yoga/pilates ones that I couldn't live without, all of which are lead by Suzanne Deason. She's very soothing and straight forward, and it's easy to pick up at a beginner's level, and then when you're ready to move forward, just change the video to intermediate, etc. They are: Yoga for Weight Loss, Pilates for Weight Loss, Stress-Relief Yoga (OMG LOVE IT!!!) and AM/PM Yoga. They are all really great, and all you need is a mat from Target, about $10. :)

I bought the set of tapes by Leslie Sansone, called "Walk Away The Pounds". It' a super walking program with some exercise built in. I know many people who use the tapes. There are various tapes (DVDs) that cover everything from a nice one mile walk to a 5 mile walk. I bought the 1 and 2 mile walks plus the 3 mile walk. You can find these on Amazon or other book or music / video stores or online. Or you can read about them (and even buy them) here:

Good luck!

I agree, Leslie Sansone's 2 mile walk is perfect for a beginner-it gives you the option to do .5 mile 1 mile, 1.5 mile or 2 full miles. Even as a beginner I was able to do the full 2 miles, you can work a little harder or easier depending on how you are feeling. Good luck to you.

Hello, I haven't tried yoga yet, but I do have a bellydancing tape, which is quite fun..and I also have a recumbant bike..I try to do a half hour on it, but I have to pull out my good old Richard Simmon's Sweatin to the oldies..he to me can get me in the mood to sweat, even when I really just don't feel like even putting the tape in. To me his tapes are very inspirational. And he's got a short tape out (it's about a half hour..and I like to use that one when I don't have time for a longer tape) I also like this tape called Street Heat with Carlos Llanos, it has a nice stretch, body jam, abs and arms and buns and thighs..but the body jam is what I like..feels like your out dancing, having a great time..doesn't feel like exercise.well, here's to getting well!!!

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your suggestions! You've recommended a good variety of programs and I'm going to look into them and figure out what's best for me right now.

Thanks again!

I use a video DVD program called turbo jam. It's so fun. It's a dance program, but it's great for shedding pounds and staying in shape. It's not too difficult and it's a great work out. I truly love it. Go to google.com and google "turbo jam" it's at a website called www.beachbody.com. I really recommend it! You can also buy them on ebay.
