some very good questions to ask yourself.
Putting It into Practice
1. Do an inventory of some of the fears you faced in your life? Consider what enabled you to do that and what did you gain by facing them?
2. Consider the fears you have persistently ignored and tried to dismiss. What has gotten in your way of facing this fear?
3. Think of a time when you felt paralyzed by fear. What kept you from moving through it? What, if anything, helped you to get on the other side of it?
4. What fears are you holding in now? What fears are you avoiding? What do you think would happen if you let yourself feel them?
5. What do you love more than you fear? How can you motivate yourself more by what you love than by what you fear?
6. Use the following prompts to learn more about your courage:
- If I were a complete coward I never could have…
- If it weren’t for my courage, I would never have…
- If I had infinite courage, I would…
7. In the face of fear, it is important to keep the flame of hope and faith burning. What are three small things you can do to keep that flame burning? (For example, reread a book you love, listen to music that takes you back to a great time in your life, rent a few of the movies that you find inspiring, or spend time with people who encourage you.)
8. Consider using these same questions and prompts with individuals you serve to help uncover the anxiety they are feeling in preparing and looking for work.
