I have been off klonopin now for 3 weeks and I just had to take one now I am beating myself up because I am feeling weak. I came down with a bad cold over the weekend which has my head all stopped up and it feels like I am in a tunnel. When I woke this morning I felt dizzy then my mind started working over time, and as most of you know thats never a good thing to happen. Needless to say i fought it for 4 hours and I gave in a took a klonopin. Like I said in the beginning I am beating myself up for taking it because i feel weak even though I am telling myself it is the cold adding to my anxieties and it will be OK...How do I make myself see that this is a steeping stone not a boulder?

Hi Wendy:
Please don't beat yourself up!! Sometimes it takes several tries to come off a medication like that.
You have to come off it very slowly.
I think you are doing pretty good.
I hope your cold runs its course soon. A cold can make you feel pretty bad.
It took me several months to come off the Risperdal. When the withdrawal got too bad I'd have to take a quarter tablet.
But I'm happy to say that I've been completely free of it for 34 days. And having no withdrawal.
I got some 5-htp to help me along. And it did help very much. Also some Rescue Remedy.
Get your cold well and please don't be down on yourself. You are okay.
Relax if you can.
Will be thinking of you.

Hi Wendy...I don't know much about klonopin, but after 3 weeks I would think you would be over the worst......you could possibly have inner ear problems since you are stuffy....try a chiropractor you may have a misalignment at your atlas, (base of your skull) that will cause the same kind of symptoms.

No, 3 weeks is not long enough to be over the medication. Not in my experience. And I have gone through such as that several times.
Forgive me for disputing you on this.
I think that it is different for everyone.

You can't beat yourself up for taking a step backwards, esp when you've taken 3 weeks worths of steps forward. You're still way ahead in your process. You deserve to pat yourself on the back, not feel guilty. Keep up the good work!

I Wendy,
Cornflower is right about the time period when coming off a med. It is not the same for any person and the dose and time on a med will affect it's withdrawel time. I had symptoms of withdrawal from Paxil for the better part of 3 months. It's not an easy ride so go easy on yourself.
It takes a lot of guts to stop a med and you did so be kind to yourself and say good job!!
Another point is about the inner ear infection and I know from my husband and daughter when they get a cold or sinus infection they get the ear problems also. Might be worth a check.
Try steaming your head with a pot of hot water and a towel enclosing your head around the steam...this should help with the stuffed up head and sinus. A bit of vicks added to the water helps better...for me anyway.
I hope you are feeling better and don't beat youself up!
Best wishes for speedy recovery,
Deb
