Suncastle,
I've just read your post about the double images. I'm a new user and thought I should give you my insight. The fact that it happens when you look at something illuminated or high-contrast sounds to me as though it may be a condition called keratoconus. The pulsing or vibrating that you describe is also common with keratoconus. Is the vibrating in time with your heartbeat, by any chance? Do you wear glasses? Do you know whether you have astigmatism? Mine was diagnosed about a year ago and is corrected (to some degree) with hard contact lenses. Try this website, and see what you think...
Hope this helps,
Mark

Over 25 years ago, I had my first airplane flight to a state up north where my dad had suffered a bad accident and had a massive blood clot in his brain. I was horrified of flying and we had to make numerous sit downs and take offs in a very small plane. I was a nervous wreck! This weird vision was apparent the next morning and I have had it ever since. I tried to tell a doctor about it and they kept giving me medication for a nervous disorder, which made things even worse in my body. So I just thought it best over the years, just to deal with it and never try to make someone understand and that is what I have done. I met a lady that sent me an e-mail about an interview on ABC News of 2 ladies one had taken an airline trip and the other a cruse and ended up having this disembarkment malady as they call it. It has been very interesting for me. I may have some form of that.

I totally understand about the vibrating, shimmering vision. Like you i get it when i look at busy patterns, and stripes, even at blank white walls, it can look fuzzy. I only started noticing a few years ago, and i thought i was loosing it...I tried explaining it to my doc and opthalmologist, who didn't see fazed by it. It freaked me out. I also have weird visual stuff going on, whereby i see kaleidoscope images, with different colours and it obscures my vision for 30-40mins. They diagnosed me as having vascular migraines, i don't get a headache with it. This happens much more recently, which heightened my anxiety so much, i ordered the programme. It doesn't help when one of my fears is going blind!!! Anyone else heard of this?

My eyes do the very same thing and have been for years. I am convinced it is totally anxiety created. Mine happens BEFORE an anxiety attack - I think my fear of it was causing the attacks. The eye thing starts, then the spacey - feeling of unreality thing - fear of both of these and BAM I'm in a full blown attack. Grocery stores are the worst place for this happening for me - and of course I know that so my fear of it generally accomplishes the result of the eyes going wacky. I'm only on session 3 of this program and it has already helped me so much to stay positive and not let these things build on each other. I AM my SAFE PLACE is what I keep remembering and know I can reassure myself that it is just anxiety - NO BIG DEAL. I also started taking Paxil about the same time I started the program and I believe it's helping me stay positive too. Good luck to you and God Bless You - Nanc

Hi! I am from NZ and suffer dreadfully from vibrating vision. I cannot read for more than about 15 minutes or everything is just so blurry. I have spent $500 on new glasses however, this has done nothing to help. I have been to an Eye Specialist three times who has no answer. Does anyone associate this problem with stress. look forward to some feedback

Hi Suncastle....OMG!!!! I have the same exact problem, I have seen my optomologist who referred me to a retina specialist then I went to a neurologist who did an MRI checking to see if I had MS (that came back negative) Finally I was sent to a neuro-optomologist who did numerous tests and said that it was nothing serious. This all started about a year ago after my anxiety started. I see flashes, it looks like the area over a fire....just all kinda wavy. The Dr. said I was having a kind of migraine without the actual pain of it. I could never completely get over my anxiety beca use I was always worried about my vision. I no longer have panic attacks anymore but this vision thing is still lingering...I hope it justs goes away on its own. But don't worry...you are fine ;)

Does anyone know the medical or physical reason as to why anxiety causes weird eye sensations?

Is there a connection between anxiety and visual disturbances?

OK, glad to know I'm not the only one with this.
