What You Don’t See
What do you see when you look at me?
A beautiful person, smiling and bright.
What you don’t see is a hesitation to let go and be free.
A poised person standing in line at the store.
What you don’t see is an anxiousness to just get through the line and get out.
A warm, friendly person, caring and compassionate.
What you don’t see is the self-loathing and anger.
A strong looking person, healthy and fit.
What you don’t see is a weak inner person crying out for help.
Someone strong enough not to have an alcoholic beverage.
What you don’t see is the fear of a panic attack brought on by alcohol.
A relaxed person, laughing and joking, they must be carefree.
What you don’t see is a prisoner locked in a mind of fear and worry.
A health conscious person seeking real medical help.
What you don’t see is a debilitating paranoia of death and sickness.
What you see is my outer shell – composed, smiling and beautiful.
What you don’t see is something called Anxiety which millions of people like me hide from the world in shame or embarrassment.
What you will see is healing and strength.
