My neighbor left his card on my door because of a problem with the fence falling over. He lives behind us and we don't know him well.
I emailed him and then we were talking about where he works. I have a friend looking for work. As I was closing I said I'd keep his card because it looks like a great company and maybe I'd need to call him if I get laid off.
He emailed me to say please call. He had looked at my resume on linkedIn.
We talked and he said he'd like to interview me for a QA position. It sounds awesome! I have a job but this company sounds just amazing. He said they are needing someone very soon and not to delay sending my resume. I sent it without even putting together a cover letter (bad idea)
Later that day on Wednesday I emailed briefly just asking if he got it. He said he did and he sent it to another person that works there that I actually used to work with.
At what point should I follow up on this? My friend says I should call back on Monday but I don't want to be a pain.
I'd really like to work there. It's a Christian run company and sounds so perfect for me.
The other question is. . . should I just email my neighbor and cc in the hiring manager like I did when I sent my resume, or should I call him? Or should I look up the hiring manager's number and call him. . .
Career Advice please
I would go directly to the hiring manager regarding your application status. It's best to cut out the middleman and go straight to the source in this type of situation. Your neighbor will appreciate it too, as he won't be in the middle trying to relay information back and forth. By going directly to the hiring manager, he/she will know you are an assertive person who is very interested in the position. I would call the hiring manager, not e-mail. Make it personal so he/she has a voice to connect to the application.
I would give it a full 7-10 days before contacting the hiring manager. If they got your application late in the week, they may not have had a chance to review it, so calling first thing on Monday may not be the best thing.
Best of luck to you!! Be sure to post back and let us know how it goes.
