I used to get those before I went on Med's ..I thought I was the only one OMG the things you think your alone with. I just figured my mind was overloaded. They have seemed to go away as of lately , also I have been doing much better overall in my anxiety this used to freak me out untill no end. I used to get them when I was really overwhelmed and depressed a lot of times when I was half a sleep. THen I would wack up to a Zap and immediately be thrown into a panic attack. Through talking with my therapist although I didn't think he really understood and just understanding things I am overcoming alot . Still ALOT to understand and work through but I finally feel progress. Just thought I would let you know your not the only one. And thanks for letting me know I'm not either..

Hi Guys,
I too had brain zaps before I started any meds. I'm now on paroxetine and bupropion. Still no relief for the brain zaps. I've been complaing about this for over 3 years. Doctors can't find anything to blame it on.
Has anyone heard from other who had these zaps before starting meds?

I've never been on meds. Recently started having severe panic and anxiety which I never had before. Had insomnia for days than started to get brain zaps. I hate them! They are not as bad when my anxiety lessens and my sleep gets better. Good luck.

What exactly do you mean by a "brain zap". I've not heard this term used before and am unfamiliar with it.

Oh my goodness, that sounds horrible. I've not experienced that before, but it doesn't mean I won't in the future. Thanks for explaining that to me. Have any doctors explained exactly what causes this?

I didn't find out from Drs why it happens. Fro my research, anxiety and lack of sleep and a hightened nervous system can do some real crazy things!

Thanks for letting me know and I pray it doesn't happen to me. With everything else I'm going through, I don't know if I could take anything else happening to me.

You're welcome Kamo. I went 5 days without sleeping than slept for a couple hours on day 6 and 7 than didn't sleep for another 5 days. Its been over a month now and still not sleeping much but have some days when I sleep 3 hours. I'm starting to really appreciate those days. I pretty much have/had in the last 2 months every anxiety symptom managable. I've been a mess, but it's slowly getting better. Try not to worry about what symptoms u might get or had. Worry just makes them worse. I know. Take, care and hang in there. It's a struggle, but hopefully something really wonderful comes out of all the struggling we're going through.
