I got the introductory tape and listened to it. Related to what was on the tape but that's as far as I got. I guess I'm afraid to start the program because I fear it won't work and then there is no hope. Can anyone else relate to this fear?

The only way to face your fear is to just start in this case. Breath deep and begin. I am sure if you apply all that is taught, your attitude will change and you will begin to believe there is hope!!! Try to be the one that looks at the half full glass of water and not see it as half empty. How you look at situations, makes all the differnce in the world!!
