Hello,
I had mirena in for 3 months and got terrible headaches, shooting pains, numbness in face and extremities, difficulty breathing, etc. I had it removed last week, and while the symptoms are better, they're still there. I found different websites where other women dealt with the side effects for weeks to months afterward. THis stresses me out and makes me panic which as we all know worsens the symptoms. Any one want to chat or been through this?? Thanks godbless. Amber

I've had Mirena for almost 9 weeks, so I'm getting close.
I can say alot of my problems I've had before, the pains, no numbness, headaches or anything of that sort. My problem though is that I had a baby almost 4 months ago, so I don't know if mine is the mirena or the hormones.

You mean you've had mirena OUT for 9 weeks? Or in?
Yes it's possible it's the post baby hormones, but Having had 2 kids myself, I am finding the side effects of mirena to not be worth it for the birth control alone. I was tense, and moody plus all the above symptoms and they only got worse. I encourage you to journal how your feeling and see if they progress or decrease, b/c I'm finding more negative about mirena than good, regardless of what the medical establishment might say.

You were tense? did you ever have chest pains, boob pains, whatever? I am so tense right now it's ridiculous. I was hoping my anxiety was going to go away, but it hasn't, even on lexapro. I'm going to try upping my dose for the next month. I said I would give it 3 months, so I'll definetely see how it goes.
I've had it in for 9 weeks on Thursday.
What all symptoms did you have?

Okay please don't wait, just get it out!!!! Now !!!
My tension was going up daily, I was having difficulty breathing, chest pain, leg cramps, sweating, headaches, jaw aches, numbness/tingling in tongue, face, weird head bubble pains, electrical like shocks in head that radiated to pinkies, ankles, fatigue, heaviness in head, etc. I called the drs. office and the nurse told me to wait it out, it ONLY GOT WORSE! I had continuous spotting, out of the 11weeks I had it in , 9 weeks of spotting or heavier. The "local" hormone was causing such an upset in my body and bleeding that my anxiety was being artificially raised b/c of the hormone imbalance and then the other symptoms followed the increased tension. The difficulty breathing felt like there was a ceiling in my chest and I couldn't get a deep breath. (It was muscle tension in my chest)
I thought i'd try mirena b/c I when I took the pill I'd get migraines.
Please print out some of the side effects that you or others are experiancing, and give them to your doctor during the appt to TAKE IT OUT!
People with anxiety tend to be more sensitive to hormone imbalances, please don't reinevent the wheel, learn from mine and others experiances on this one, Mirena is not good for everyone, if your already experiancing symptoms they'll only get worse b/c of the constent hormone build-up being released. You will feel better everyday that goes by once mirena is out. It may take a few weeks but every day it's been out I've felt better and better. Uping your lexapro will only mask these mirena symptoms. and IF your doctor argues with you, he's not a good doctor to begin with. They call it a medical 'practice' for a reason. A good doctor will listen to you, and remove mirena if you ask them too. It doesn't hurt to give removal a chance.
As for birth Control, I have used VCF ( vaginal contraceptive film, at any drugstore) successfully for 2 years. Neither of you can feel it, just insert wait 15 minutes and then your good for 3 hrs. I just thought I'd give mirena a try, but the side effects weren't worth it! I hope this helps someone whose dealing with side effects. Know your not alone! Much peace and prayers!

Thank you so much for the information!
The only problem I have is that I had these symptoms at times before I ever had mirena AND I took lexapro before I had it also, that's where I'm having trouble figuring out what to do! I don't want anything to cause this! So far I haven't had all the problem you are I will definetely say. Chest pain yes, but it's due to muscle tension..which could be related to mirena, but I had this problem before taking it too. Ugh..what do I do?????
