Stress Center Peer Support

I do the same thing every day livng with anxiety. And I was just curious if others have the same routine. Im 26 still living with my parents as im waiting for a full time position in my job to open and for me to recieve full benifits.

I work for the post office as a rural letter carrier in Woth, IL. I love my job because I have no one bothering me or looking over my shoulder. I case mail for my route of around 350 houses, start at around 7 and leave the office to begin delivering around 1030. Get my truck loaded and begin delivering (my fav part). I finish around 2pm.

Come home and eat. Then I turn on my PC go online for about 15-25mins. Then I turn on my Playstation 3 and sit on Call of Duty 4 and game with friends online for around 4-5hrs. I love playing video games because its like an escape from real life and puts me into a characters shoes in the game.

After that I watch a show on tv show or movie with my parents..my dad (sports), or my mom (house hunters) lol. On sundays I walk around the local flea market, come home do yard work, go for a bike ride and repeat this week after week. My best friend is now dating and Im seeing less and less of him. My parents always told me not to ever get married and its been engraved in my mind to stay away from relationships. I will move out and live on my own once I get my full time position but until then this is my life.

Generally, I do follow a routine and it helps me: wake up, check email, get ready, go to school, come home and watch tv/go online, watch certain shows before bed, etc.

BUT I also think it's important to mix it up once in awhile so that you don't cling to the routine and freak out if something messes it up. For example, I just got back from spending four days in Vegas (which is very much out of my routine!). I was a little worried about how I'd do on the trip and it was trying at times being so out of my element, but my husband (who does not suffer from anxiety) actually complained more about the lack of our usual routine, which was surprising.

So while it is nice to have a routine, I think it's healthy to throw something new and exciting in every once in a while.

it is nice to have a routine. are you happy with the way things are now? does it make you uncomfortable to change things up? it used to make me really nervous and uneasy to change what i was doing, especially if it was a move to a new place or trying a new activity. i would get bad anxiety and it would make me feel down. but once i get resettled, i am so happy i have made a change and i always learn so much from these changes.

do you want to have a relationship? are you happy by yourself? what do you want in life? i have learned through my path to getting better that a lot of what i want is very different from what my parents wanted for me and i am very happy to hear what advice they have for me and i take it in, but in the end, i have to decide what it is that i want for myself.

are you happy with your routine or do you want to do something different?

are you nervous to go against what it is that you think your parents want for you? i still am but in the end i know that i will be happier and therefore, i have to make decisions based on my own needs not what others want for me.
