You need a hugh mental stop sign to pop up. Only you can help you. The relaxation sessions are a great way to start learning to gain control of your self. You do have the power you just dont know it yet. When I start thinking negative thoughts I tell my self to change the subject. Sometimes that can get off course too so change it again. Then distract yourself, being nice to yourself works too. There are good things about everybody. Find a good personality trait of yours and dwell on it for as long as you can! Practice, practice, practice!

dear Hope7-

These are just obsessive thoughts, nothing more. You know that they are not rational or true. You are fighting your thoughts which is why they feel so powerful. I have had thoughts such as you describe and I'm sure many others have had them too.

Instead of letting them throw you for a loop, just talk back to them calmly. You know they are not rational so don't give them too much time, just something like "I don't think all music is going to make me anxious, so I'm just going to skip that thought". Involve yourself in what you are doing and get into the present moment. These obsessive moments will pass.

Hi Hope WOW what a great post and as I read through it I see all of the what-if thinking (four of them in one paragraph) popping out and the negative thinking coming through that actually causes the anxiety. First of all are you happy with your current coach and what lesson are you on with her? Is she a support to you or someone that stresses you even more? Basically do you two click very well? I ask this because from your post it honestly sounds like you are possibly not to happy with this coach. When you posted everyone responded and there responses were talking down the negative thoughts in your post and putting them in perspective. It is the same thing when you do it. It is just taking as much as you can grab of each thought and jotting it down and countering it with a more realistic statement. Even if you are sure it will not work do it anyway and as you start doing this the negative thoughts become less and less kind of like climbing the first hill on a roller coaster ride. It's kind of scary and you don't ever think you are going to get there, but once you hit the peak it is all down hill and fun. Same with negative thinking it happens pretty quick when you start replacing the negatives with positives. My advice would be to be careful about getting to much information and just take it easy and let the coach guide you. They are experts in this stuff and I went through the coaching and had the same increase in anxiety and frustration with my coach but remained anxiety free for years.
Take care Hope and please keep us updated on your progress.
