I talked to a friend of ours, and for three years she has been having episodes of bad headaches, losing vision and hearing. After three years of all kinds of medical tests, nothing was found to be wrong. She recently went to another doctor and was told it was anxiety and panic attacks. Has anyone ever had or heard of this before?

I'm certainly not a doctor and don't want to contradict what your friend has been told, but I'm not familiar with losing sight and hearing from anxiety. But the anxiety reaction is a pretty complex one, so I suppose it's not impossible.

I have lost vision in association with migraine headaches (the mention of your friend's headaches makes me wonder). I also have a friend that gets odd hearing symptoms from his migraines. These types of symptoms with migraines are called auras and are not uncommon before the headache sets in.

I can't say I've had the same thing but my anxiety has caused me to have severe migraines in the past (once was hospitalized for it).

Earlier this year I also got a blood clot in my eye, and over 6 months later, I still have a slight scar that appears in my eyesight as a gray-screen floater.

So, there seems to be a connection here ... bad headaches, vision/eye issues. Interesting! I've also had ringing in my ears periodically, my whole life.

I have not heard or experienced hearing loss or vision loss. However through my past bouts with anxiety I have had ringing in my ears, roaring sounds as well. There were several times were my vision or eyes felt weird, cloudy, glassy, or just like they were going to go cross eyed or something. Kinda hard to explain. Also, there were times when I was having a full blown panic attack, my eyes felt like there was a black curtain that would go over them relly fast. Almost like I felt like I might black out, but it didn't go that far, thank God! Plus there were times when having a panic attack, I thought I was seeing something out the corner of my eyes, like dark, or grayness. Hopefully you don't have anything to worry about. Sounds like your fine since the doctors have found nothing. Only you know your body though, so if it absolutely doesn't feel right keep getting checked out, different opinnions! Good luck!!

Hi,

A few years ago, I had a friend who originally had no anxiety, and even though she was nice, she had a hard time empathizing with my anxiety. She was young and had to have a hysterectomy a year after knowing her, and after that she developed severe anxiety. She called me one day to ask me if I ever lost my hearing because she said she would during her attacks. So, I'm not a doctor either, and don't know for certain, but loss of hearing appeared to be symptom of her panic attacks, and I told her to run that symptom by her doctor because I had never had that. That was actually the last time I talked with her, so I don't know what the doctor said.

Also, apparently, my grandmother had panic attacks, and all of my aunts say that she would lose her senses during them too. She was already blind though so I don't know about the vision issue, but they felt like she zoned out completely which would include loss of hearing. So, I guess it's possible for some people.

I get a lot of pressure in my head, ears, and eyes. At that time, my hearing and vision gets blurred. I've seen ENT, and they couldn't find anything. They said it's probably allergies or sinus trouble. They were only guessing. I could tell.
