Charles I believe a lot of that food on the list may have sedative qualities because they are very grounding (many are found closer to the ground) or higher in fat (such as the almonds and chocolate). The higher fat foods tend to make one tired and mellow.

On the other hand, chocolate can also set off anxiety because of the theobromine.
