There are many anxiety medications available and it's really a trial and error situation. Many people have to take several different medications before finding one that works for them. I first started on Xanax, but after a while, had to start taking more to get it to work. Then my doctor put me on Zoloft, which made my anxiety worse, so I stopped taking that after a month. Now I am on Clonazepam and Celexa, which have helped me tremendously. Be aware that most of these types of medications make you drowsy, so I take mine at night before going to bed. Before, I'd wake up two or three times a night and have a hard time getting back to sleep; now I sleep all night without waking up at all. If I have an anxiety attack during the day, I take one of my Clonazepam, but I cut it in half and it doesn't make me sleepy during the day. If you find one that works for you, your doctor may start you out on a low dose, but may have to increase it over time. I've seeing my doctor in December and am going to ask him to increase the Celexa from 10 mgs to 15 or 20. I just hope he will because it's not working as well as it used to. Please keep in touch and let us know what you're taking and how it's working for you.
