I decided to go to the Doctor for a fisical exam. That took a lot of courage, due to the fact I am extreme nervous going to doc. Before I got exam I needed to fill up paper work, was one Q about drinking, my answer was that I drink 2 glass of wine with dinner a day. I Doctor during the examination told me that 2 glass of wine were to much because cam damage the liver. Doc told me was going through blood work checking for liver problem. Doc mention cerosis of the liver couple of time. I freak out a little. I enjoy drinking some wine at dinner or with friends, it not I get drunk or any thing. The Doc told me they will call me on Tuesday with results. I did the exams on friday, I do have a good amount of anxiety up on the waiting for tuesday. I don't like the way I feel maybe I shouldn't get the fisical exam..

Hi 9-

I often feel anxious going to the doctor because of "what if" something is wrong, etc. But really the exam and the doctor talking to you won't cause cirrhosis of the liver. You had a blood test and it will just tell you the facts regarding your drinking a couple of glasses of wine per day. If there is a problem that shows up, you can choose to cut down or cut out the wine or change it to a treat in your life that you still enjoy but just not everyday.

I don't think that having a physical is a bad thing. In fact, you are right-- it is hard and you are to be commended for being responsible and taking care of yourself and not hiding your head in the sand. What it sounds like is that you steeled yourself for a physical exam and were anxious about that and when he/she started talking of something that you thought was innocent, it cranked up your adrenaline machine and now you are stuck in the waiting game until Tuesday. On Tuesday, no matter what the answer is, get your money's worth and ask all the questions that you have. You are the patient and the customer. I'll pray for God to grant you peace in your heart as you are waiting.

9oclockreservation - You did the right thing to go to the doctor for a check up. 2 glasses of wine at dinner time (in my non expert opinion) shouldn't hurt. Others drink half gallon's of vodka per day and they can keep that up for years!! Keep you mind at ease ;-)

I agree with INDY5QQ. Two glasses of wine a day is not going to give you cirrhosis of the liver.

Hello 9
I think that the only way to know if the meds will help you or not is to take it. If you are worried than just take half a pill to start and if an hour passes and you feel okay then take the other half. These meds are to help our symptoms not make them worse. I think many think that meds will make them into some uncontrolable monster or some out of body scary thing will happen to you beyond your control. That has not happened to me. I did have a high does of Prozac and that made me sick to my stomach and so I didnt take it again, Dr's Orders. I called him right away to tell him what happened and we tried another route. You can always ask your pharmacist too about ideas and concerns , they are medicine specialist and know how they chemically work. I think you will be okay. You will know for sure when you try it when you are ready :)
Take Care

Hi 9-

I am a pharmacist and I want to warn you about something that Jill posted. I know she didn't do it to intentionally, but I can't morally let it pass without giving you my opinion.

You said the Doc gave you a prescription for Paxil CR. The CR designation on the end means "controlled release". It means it has a special coating or shell on the outside that releases the med thru the whole day. It is NOT cut-able. This will screw up the whole release thing and you will get a burst of Paxil that is not intended.

As far as should you take it or not, what else have you tried? Do you have the StressCenter.com program? Do you do a relaxation tape? Do you exercise? I found a book that I really like called "Freedom from Fear by Dr. Howard Leibgold". It's very similiar to StressCenter.com stuff in many ways, but I think it's easier to use because it's a book I can hold in my hand and also it's done in a way that was easier to understand for me. I got it from the bookstore for about $10- if money is an issue.

Or, you could try the medication route, but know that meds do NOT cure you. They help you feel better so that you can work on stuff. No magic pill unfortunately.

Whatever you decide, do NOT cut the Paxil CR.

Thanks for the heads up on the Paxil CR. I was not familiar with that design that it would alter its effectivness. Thats why Its so dangerous to throw around medical advice on here. Guilty as charged.
Thanks again

I took the paxil CR last night I didn't cut it in half. This is my first medication I took in my life, haven't try any thing else.Yes I do work out almost every day,lot of cardio lot of swimming, lift weight.Unfortunately I lost my relaxation tape due to the house moving I did one years ago with some other cds from the Basset programs. I understand that meds are just to help with symptoms of anxiety. I decided to take medication after a long thinking progress because it got to the point that I couldn't do my job the way I wanted to do it. I just start last night the Doc told me that I want feel any different with in 14 day after I begin to take Paxil CR, my dose it 12.5. Thank you for the book I sure will look in to it.
