Hi everyone.

I took Benadryl yeasterday afternoon for allergies. By bedtime I was yawning, jittery, more lightheaded, etc....But I could not sleep ALL night. Now I'm sitting here feeling miserable.

The really bad thing is that I was feeling really good before I took it.

Does this happen to anyone else? Some people say benadryl relaxes them. I was not relaxed and couldn't sleep ALL night.

OMG!!!

Thank you both!!

When nobody answered my post, I started thinking it was JUST ME.

You've made me happy just hearing this!

I'm trying to relax now. I haven't had any sleep. I was yawning like crazy but couldn't fall asleep for anything!

Deedee I have trouble with oral sedatives. I had to get some dental work done, and I took half and was okay. I was told to take a whole one after the procedure and did but it made me panicky because it was so sedating.

I was like this when I tried pot way back in high school days. I got paranoid. I was a big party pooper, lol!!! Maybe God was looking out for me, cause I never liked recreational drugs.

Usually, Benadryl makes me tired and can help me fall asleep. But there have been times when it did cause me to panic. I think that the source of the panic was that I felt "out of control". That is, once it was in my system, I couldn't get rid of it until my body had fully processed it, which could be hours. My fear was that I would need to "escape" or otherwise deal with my anxiety after taking it and I would be too tired or spacey to fight it. It's amazing the strange things we can come up with to worry about! I guess the point of this is that I think that when I react badly to Benadryl is pretty much all in my head and not a direct side effect of the medication. I don't know if this is common or perhaps it's just me!

I agree with Searunner, if I ever felt like I was being controlled by a substance it made/makes me feel anxious.

Like the two other posters, Benadryl really does make a lot of people nervous. It even says on the box; May cause excitability. That's nervousness. Then add a person with anxiety and lightheadness to the picture. LOL

I Finally went to sleep. When I woke up I felt better. Then after last night's sleep I felt a little better.

I'm feeling a lot better today. I'm focusing on other things and relaxing today. I'm fine though.

Thanks everybody!!!

Way to power through that one Deedee! We learn (take away something positive) from every mistake we make. Now you know that benadryl may not be the best choice for you. :)
