Hello,

I've been having problems at my new job since I started this past April. I got thrust into a position where I had a lot more responsibility and received VERY little training. My previous boss praised me all the time, told me I was doing a great job and how glad she was that I was there to work for them. And I made mistakes every now and then like anyone else but she never made me feel about them. Flash forward to my current job, my boss only seems to pick out my mistakes (often) and I can't seem to do anything right for her. I'm starting to feel very intimidated by her and I've noticed when she puts me on the spot asking for specifics on events etc... that I get sort of tongue tied and I feel SO inarticulate.

I think I'm starting to see that even though she is an authority figure, she's not always right and isn't a very good manager at all. How can I stop feeling so small?

P&P,
I think you hit the nail on the head when you realized your boss is just a person too, making mistakes and being a bad manager. Too bad this person has to belittle another to make them feel better or feel their power.

Remember, no matter who is in authority, we're all human and we're equally good workers in our positions. Sure there are occasional mistakes BY ALL, but that doesn't have to define us. Each is an important piece in making the whole organization function. Without even the least on the totem pole, the whole thing fails.

Keep your chin up and don't depend on this boss to make you feel good. KNOW in your heart that's exactly what you are!

Thanks Bevhembree :) Those were some good solid words of advice. I think I've had the tendency to think that others are right before me, which I'm learning isn't always true. I'm trying to remind myself that I'm the same person as I was in my past job, if anything I work a hundred times harder now in my current position.
