I tend to be much more anxious in the mornings. Does anyone else have this experience? I've never been a "morning person", but this is more than that. I wake up feeling anxious about the day...I guess maybe that's what Lucinda refers to as anticipatory anxiety? I was just wondering if anyone else experienced being more anxious in the mornings.

Yes. Mornings are a more anxious time for me, usually. I do think it's mostly anticipatory. I focus on breathing more than anything to maintain my calm.

Try doing yourself a favour.. For a week write down the thoughts you are thinking in the morning. I am sure you will notice that you are asking yourself a lot of What if thoughts to increase your stress. Once you think what you are worrying about, play it down, don't make it such a big deal, change the 'what if' thoughts to 'So what if'.

And as Christian said, remember to breath ..

I agree with Camnuck - journal your thoughts upon wakening. My anxiety was high in the evening and I wrote everything down in my journal. Once the worries are down on paper, I feel they are out of your thought process. Good Luck,
Lisa

Oh Yes,
Mornings are much worse that the rest of the day as far as the anxiety goes. I tend to wake up with all of the days activities going through my head and what I am going to do and how I will react to it, this makes me fell overwhelmed. I just try and catch myself and tell myself to stay in the present. No matter how hard we as "anxious people" we try, we cannot predict the future. Try giving it over to God.

What works for me is getting up early. I was never really a morning person before my anxiety but at the height of my anxiety I would lay in my bed until noon or 1 feeling more and more anxious the longer I stayed there. When I wake up at 7 or 8 I have a way better day than if I let myself sleep in until just 9 or 10.

Definitely! I also wake up feeling anxious in the mornings, not wanting to get out of bed. What works for me is just thinking that there's nothing I can do about what will happen in the day, and the only thing I can control is what I consciously think and do. I suppose this is having a lack of expectations for the day?

I still wake up every morning with the numbness and tingling of anxiety. I'm hoping and praying this will resolve as I use the skills of the program. I appreciate the suggestion to journal in the morning. Let's hope (and, again, pray) that will help.

Mornings ar the worst for me too. I physically feel my best in the morning, but mentally the worst. As the day goes on, I flip.

I have tried the "write it down" technique, only to find that made me late for work, or getting worked up enough bring on physical symptoms.

So I switched to a mental checklist: What do I HAVE to get done today? At what meetings is my presence critical? What are the minor tasks to get done or to check-up on?

Hope this helps!
