Hi,
I went to the doctor on last Friday for symptoms of a UTI. The doctor said that things looked pretty good, and that he did notice a mild UTI. He prescribed an antibiotic for 7 days (twice daily). On Saturday morning I started taking it. I took two tablets that day. I felt a lot better. I could feel a lot of relief. On Sunday, I took only one tablet and still felt pretty well. Monday I didn't take any of them...I actually forgot, but I was feeling a lot better also, so I really didn't worry and didn't take it (I know....that is NOT what I should have done!
Tuesday I took one tablet also. Last nite, (Tuesday nite) I noticed the urgency and pressure again.... :( It is so uncomfortable. I was getting up through the nite using the restroom and I would go back to sleep but the pressure is uncomfortable so I really didn't sleep well. I took one today and I will definitely take the other tonite, but now I have some anxiety because I am wondering why I have this pressure. I use the bathroom but I feel the pressure as though I didn't even use the bathroom. I am getting nervous. I wonder if it is that I didn't take the medicine like I should and I have caused the symptoms to return? I am praying things are not worse because the doctor told me that it was not bad at all, but that he could tell that I had a mild infection. I didn't have fever, nausea or anything like that, but I had the pressure and the frequency. It was getting so much better until I started missing dosages of the meds. I don't know why I did that. I think it is because I fear meds anyway, but actually didn't have any terrible side effects from this medicine. I feel so terrible now, and I am just wondering will this pressure go away once I take this med like I should? I know if I go to the doctor I will have terrible anxiety since I am worried now. Sorry, I am just rambling!
Please give feedback if you have experienced this.

Thanks!

Hello Book of Psalms

I am sorry to hear you are having a UTI, they can be pretty uncomfortable. Frequency, burning and pressure are usually symptoms of a UTI. It probably didn't help that you missed a dose of your antibiotic but you can't beat yourself up over that. We are all human.

Try and get back on schedule with your antibiotic. If you can try and increase your fluid consumption as well, ie) water, and cranberry juice is pretty good as well.

You want to help flush your kidneys and keep your urine lite in color. If you finish your antibiotics and still have symptoms, you might want to give your doctor a call. I'm sure he has heard this time many times. Don't worry about it.

People with anxiety usually don't like taking medication. I can definitely relate. But tell yourself its only until the infection clears up.

I do hope you feel better soon.

Take care and God Bless.

Hi!

You said it yourself--that it was getting so much better until you started missing dosages--Don't fret. I've had this before and the antibiotic HAS to be taken the way it was prescribed to you. When you take a little, it will absolutely feel better, but you need the full dosage to get all of the infection out of your system. Just call the doc's office and tell them that you may need to start over on the antibiotic and have them call in a prescription for you---It's not scary and they won't be judgemental about it--they will be glad that you're being honest with them... I come from a family of nurses, and worked for doctors on and off the the years....Don't worry, just start a new prescription and follow through every day with the correct dosage.

Good luck!

Hi bna & abstractgirl!
Thanks for your responses!

Bna,
You are right, no need to beat myself up now. It's too late! Lol
I am going to get back on track with the antibiotic today. I started earlier so I will take the other dosage tonite. I am only taking 100 mg of Macrobid (not sure of the spelling).
My urine is lite in color and has been- even when I went to the doctor last week. The doctor even said that my urine looked good and didn't see much infection at all.
I have been drinking cranberry juice and water since last week and even before then I didn't drink sodas at all. I do drink gingerale or sprite from time to time, and that is only when we go out to dinner and even then I get water also, so that after I drink the sprite or gingerale, I drink water to help flush the kidneys.
I don't drink juice, coffee, tea or dark sodas at all. I used to drink tea at dinner but I don't anymore and that has been 2 years since I last had tea.
I just don't know why these symptoms are so bad today. It just seems like all the pressure is here...as if I did not empty my bladder when I use the bathroom. It truly feels like a UTI at this point. Lol. I mean last week was not like this.
I will call the doc back if I don't notice a change after taking the antibiotic correctly.

Abstractartgirl,
I appreciate your input also. I am thinking of calling the doc's office to tell them what I did. I am going to be honest with them.I got so anxious once I started feeling this way today. I started really wondering--(you know how anxiety does). I thought all the "what ifs" and the more I did that I got more nervous. I was wondering why I felt this pressure after I would pee. I think it will get better once I actually take the medicine the way that I should. The feeling is just uncomfortable. I know that you all know how I feel since you have had this before, but I guess it has been so long that I last had one until I actually didn't know how uncomfortable they are. :(

I will not worry...I will just stay home by the bathroom I guess!

Thanks ladies!

Yea!!
Good job on setting upon a plan for yourself!
Now let's see--pat yourself on the back for having the bravery to ask for help--because that is a biggie--put on your comfiest lounging-around attire and know that I'm wearing a big smile for you right now---You're winning this round!!

Hugs to you,
Karen

Thanks abstractartgirl! ;)

I actually called the doctor's office and spoke with a nurse and she said that it is very important to finish all medicine (in which I already knew that--SHAME ON ME!)
She said that it is probably not any worse than it was, but she said I am feeling symptoms because I needed to finish the antibiotic even if I start to feel better.
She just suggested that I take it as I am suppose to and I should get better. I pray that this feeling eases up...it is so much pressure. WOW!
Thanks so much for your smile!! :) I am going to get comfortable AND I am patting myself on the back! ;)

Hi Bookie!

You are AWESOME!!

I know the pressure feeling that you're talking about- it WILL ease up and will stay away as long as you finish all the meds EVERY day until they're gone--That's a promise.
Now hug your sad little tummy, give it some love, and do something relaxing for yourself :)

Have a good night and again, be proud of yourself--you've done a lot today!

Karen

(((((Psalms))))) I am sorry to hear you are fighting a UTI they aren't fun. I haven't had one for years but with every one I have had I also had that pressure and urgency feeling. What was so frustrating and irritating was feeling like you had to go real bad and then when you went into the bathroom could only go a little if any at all. Did your Doc say anything to you about drinking Cranberry juice? I am a fan of Cranberry juice (any flavor will work) because the doctor said it helps to flush and rinse the kidneys out. It really seemed to help the infection. Feel better soon. I miss visiting you in the chatroom.

Love and hugs,
Susan
