I have had vertigo and dizziness for 12 years. I was told it was anxiety. I tried meds but it made it worse. I have been taking valuim once in a while for it and it does help. Is it muscle spasms or anxiety. I haven't driven in years because of it. I had all kinds of tests done and they were all neg.

vertigo episodes run rampant in my family and i have been informed that it can be directly traced to inner-ear issues. a homeopathic remedy is available although i am not sure of its effectiveness, as i have very few instances of vertigo myself. it is one of those ear candles that draws wax, dirt, and other foreign substances from the ear canal....again, i have never tried it myself but it is safe, natural, and definitely worth a shot (i believe they are fairly inexpensive and can be found at most vitamin/health food stores i.e. GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe)..... if that doesn't work, i would suggest checking with an ear, nose, and throat specialist.

best of luck!!!

I am 43 years old and I've had vertigo for 20 years or more. It's only anxiety and when I realized that and stopped alowing myself to be afraid of it, it started going away. I hardly notice it anymore. It's almost gone. It is only really noticeable when i'm going through pms.

Vertigo gets better as anxiety gets better because it's caused by anxiety. Don't start taking all kinds of drugs for this. I've had anxiety for many years and got through it without drugs. Just do the program exactly as it says and challenge yourself by facing your fears. That's how you get rid of this stuff .

Doctor told my husband it's usually caused from inner ear problem also. He was given a med by a different clinic doctor for vertigo and the few times he used it it did work. Hasn't used it in couple of years now. Sorry can't be more conclusive. Always best to talk to a doctor if you can. I know it was horrible when my husband had it. Good Luck!!!

I work at an ENT office and you need to see one. While you may be experiencing vertigo it might also be a touch a balance problems also. Only your dr. can verify this. There are physical therapists that can assist you w/balance problems if need be. And just a liitle word of warning please never stick anything in your ear that is smaler than your elbow. Some people try hydrogen peroxide to clean out their ears but that is a mistake also. It hardens the wax in your ears and doesn't remove it. It can make your situation much worse. Please go see an ENT for more info.

I forgot to mention that I went to a dizzy center and they did the EPLy manuever and they said it was from the crystals in my ears due to an accident a long time ago. After doing the manuever a few times the vertigo was gone- in that position. Several days later I ended up with an ear infection-I never get ear infections. My ENT put a tube in my ear. The following week I went back to him and told him I felt the same, meaning off balance, he said he did all he could for me that it was just my anxiety.

I too have dizzy spells and I cannot tell you how many hundreds of dollars I spent on doctor visits ENT tests and the like. Over and over I went and always the same answer...nothing wrong / maybe anxiety. Self talk really helped me through this one. Of course you should innitally get checked by a physician to rule out any physical problem but then trust in yourself, it's just a symptom, breathe and it too will pass.

One more thought from personal experience. I had a problem with ringing in my ears and dizziness and I also had some pain in my back. I saw a chiro a couple times and mentioned it. . .she popped my neck and the ringing went away.

I still get dizziness sometimes from sinus pressure and YES also from anxiety. I sort of laugh at myself when I know that's what it is and say it's like I get to be drunk without even drinking. hehe

For some reason that hasn't bothered me too much, but then I don't get severe spinning, I just get that feeling like the room spins if I move my head too fast or like I'm walking on marshmallows. Also if I'm going up escalators I need to be sure and hold on I feel like I may lose my balance if I'm having one of "those" days.

Yes, I also experience frequently vertigo. I know its anxiety related because I was checked by a doc and all was fine. Also, my vertigo only affects me in certain situations so that alone tells me its an anxiety thing. I have learned to deal with it by relaxing myself and telling myself that it is just my anxiety causing it and its not that there is anything wrong with me. I also need to make sure that when I'm in certain situations that can make me anxious that I have a chair so I can sit down or at least something to lean on. Church is the hardest for me since its pretty much the only time I get out of the house at all during the week. I sometimes need to sit down during the singing and then I feel like everyone is looking at me because of that. My husband helps out though and allows us to sit in the very back so no one notices. At least I'm getting out there now which I wasn't before. Anyhow, I also get anxious in the shower most days and then I start to get dizzy. I have my husband come sit in there sometimes and talk to me and then the dizziness goes away. Also, make sure the water isn't too hot or that can even cause light-headedness. If he's not home I'll have music on that I can sing along to. I've never in my life passed out but for some reason I'm scared of it. And of course I think I have a brain tumor or something because I have dizziness so frequently. Another thing I've done is to make sure I eat a lot of foods with iron (especially during pms time) because I tend to feel most of my vertigo during that time of the month. Other days I can control it much easier and it goes away pretty quickly as soon as I can get myself to relax (using the techniques in the program). Get checked by your doc to make sure you don't have a low iron or anything...even ear trouble can cause it. But I've read a lot about anxiety and vertigo too...so when I went to my doc I mentioned to her that I had anxiety and after ruling out other things she's pretty certain that's all it is.

Strange to hear this from all of you cause way back i had a severe case of vertigo..im talking straight months of laying in bed. I never knew it was linked to deppression or aniexty..it figures now cause at that point in time I think I was at my worst. I have gotten over it but do get sudden "drunk spells" Like someone mentioned..No one ever believes me when i say i say i swear i feel drunk without having had a drink! Usually only happens to me when i stay up really late and the whole ear problems yes that too! A while back i felt like i could get no relief from them. Like bugs were scratching the crap out of my inner ear! I went to a specialist and nothing..all in my head issue again. Wow, i have really learned alot having signed up to this program. Thanks for sharing!
