A lot of my anxiety/panic symptoms seem to be of the neurological variety - tingling, weakness in legs, etc.

Now, I am still working with my doctor and we have not ruled out something like MS (he doesn't even want to go there now cuz I don't really have many of the classic MS symptoms like vision problems, etc), but that remains a possibility. I can say through many trips to the ER recently though that CT scans of my head/chest are normal and my heart is normal.

Anyway, because of the neurological slant to my panic symptoms, I sought out a chiropractor. Their science is all based on optimal transmission of nerves to the body. I got evaluated and was told I did have an issue in my neck which could explain some things.

Now, I truly believe my anxiety/panic is ruling what I am dealing with now, but as part of my effort to get back to normal, I am going to the chiro for awhile to see whether it helps. I can tell it is relaxing to get "adjusted" (cracked :)). I had a tension headache before one appt. and it was gone right after.

Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks.

Well, my mom has MS. She's had it for 12-13 years now. The tingling was her first sign, but it was a very long process to diagnose it. I really hope that isn't what you have. I'm doing the MS walk in May! On the chiro, this is something I started last summer. I am currently going bi-weekly. I think it is great and definately think you should keep going. Make sure you are going to someone that you really like and is easy for you to talk to. I wish I could get my mom to go to one!

Thanks jdub. If you don't mind sharing... What was the basic progression of what your mom went through to get diagnosed?

Well, she doesn't talk much about it. I think she thinks she is protecting me by not telling me. What I know is that in the 80's, she started having tingling in her hands and feet. I remember her having back problems. She wasn't diagnosed until the early/mid 90's. By then, she was limping a bit and had permanent numbmess in her hands and bottoms of her feet. You also usually get lesions on your brain...

It's so frustrating when you aren't 100% sure if your "symptoms" are anxiety or an underlying disorder. That just makes it all worse. I'm struggling with that right now.

Here's a positive note - my best friend has had MS for 10 years now and she has never missed a day of work because of it. She feels great and is hoping to start a family soon. If she didn't tell you that she has MS you'd never know.

I hear that, susie! I think part of my underlying anxiety is that I don't know for sure if I have an underlying condition or not. I wish I could just have all the answers now! :) Thanks.

NBGuy,

Before my anxiety re-appeared in mid-2004 I had actually gone back to my chiropractor because I always felt tired. Now I understand maybe I was anxious and did not know it yet, but he also said I had something called Sublaxation which you'd have to look up cause I will not explain it correctly, however, after a few appointments I noticed my engery levels returning.

I now suffer from chest pain, (Costochondritits) and some anxiety related sub-symptoms and I am considering doing accupuncture as he has encouraged it and I even read online where it has been know to ease chest pain.

Hopefully the other issue (MS) is not a reality. It likely is the anxiety and issues with your alignment.

Thanks, Engine2. I have a Stage 1 Sublaxation of my neck, according to the chiro. I am going to stick with the chiro treatments to awhile to see if they help.
