I am interviewing with a company that does drug testing. I'm a little concerned because I take 5 mg Lexapro daily, .25 mg Xanax when needed (which is almost every day ), and occasionally 5 mg Ambien.

Any suggestions, advice, links, sites would be appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Hi Charlie:

Generally when people do drug testing they test for illegal substances not prescription. I would look into what they test for b.c chances are they dont test for what you take which in all honesty is nothing to be worried or embarassed about- the best people need aid in stress management including medications. If you feel that uncomfortable I would let them know in advance you have challenges that you work with and you work with them and have solutions.. take the wind out of their sails so to speak- you'll be ok, I promise- do some research and Im sure you'll see they have a certain drugs they test for and they arent prescription ones..

good luck and keep me posted :)

I wouldn't worry either. When a company drug tests their looking for the bad stuff. Weed, cocaine, herroine. They want to make sure their not hiring junkies. Their not even going to look for prescription. I would devoulge any information unless it's asked for. Good luck,

Thanks much, Gonzo. Glad to hear they look only for the illegal "items."

Problem resolved: I am turning down the interview. The euphoria of aceing the initial interview yesterday wore off yesterday evening when something the interviewer said came to mind: the base salary gets lower. This was a sales gig where there is a base salary + commissions. I decided I cannot have the base get lower.

Thanks again for viewing and responding.

Don't know how much this will help but, I used to work as a drug tester for probation (glorified urine collecter LOL) but I know xanax does show positive for benzodazipines, but I am not sure if ambien does but I've been told it is in the same class of benzo's. I know when I got the job they did test for benzo's and opiates (which I'm told are in most narcotic pain meds like vicodin). Just thought you may want to know for future reference. PS most testing facility's will give you a form to fill out asking if you take prescription medication and they do consider this and note it before doing a drug test. Hope this helps and glad you didn't have to go through anymore stress of worring about you're meds :). Best of luck to you!
