For all the years I have had anxiety, I have had many symptoms. The feeling that you have lost your breath and are not getting enough air has always been one of them. It is a symptom that comes and goes. Lately my anxiety has been quite strong and the breathing issue has come back. But this time it seems even worse. I feel as if I cant get enough air into my lungs, I cant yawn or cough etc... Its pretty scary. Even when my anxiety is at a low point, the breathing thing seems always there, and I am always thinking about it. If anyone else has had this, can you please tell me what you do to relieve it.
Thanks

Terry,
Please practice the breathing ex ercises in the program, not only do they relax you, but give you the air you need, espcially with anxiety.
Many of us with anxiety, have these times and these feelings,, because we dont breathe correctly,, we tend to breathe very shallow.. I hope this helps

The breathing excerises in the program are good but sometimes I find and my doctor said you can do 4 breaths in deep from your tummy and 6 breaths out and I do find that sequence seems to help me more than the 2 and 4 it just makes me feel like I am getting more air in me when I feel like I can't breath just another suggestion to try. Good luck and it is a common symptom of anxiety.
God bless

Hi there and thanks for responding. Mello, the breathing exercises you are talking about, do you mean from the relaxation tape?
Mimi, I am going to try your suggestion too. Thanks

Have you been checked out by your doctor or had a chest x-ray?
I had breathing issues for months, terrible feeling!!! I finally went and had a bunch of tests done on my heart and had a chest x-ray. My x-ray was clear and the doctor said I had the arteries of a new born, I am 45. This helped me tremendously, I was visually able to see that there was nothing wrong with my lungs.
Also if I worked out the wrong way the muscles in my back and neck would tighten up and breathing would become an issue again.
If you go to Oprahs website and look up Dr. Oz he has some great suggestions on breathing. He talks about how to breath properly and why things like saying OM help and how the Vegas nerve can calm down the body. Also Dr. Andrew Weil has a website and some tips. I found that singing out loud worked for me, it helped me to get my breathing in "sync" again.
Hope that helps.
